(94,591 posts)As has been frequently said, the Twitterverse is not the real world. Nobody who isnt engaged in the Committees work will become so because of their Twitter count. Their winning their audience by actually revealing facts in their hearings.

The Jan 6 Committee wants as many people to read its posts as possible.

(108,980 posts)Having more people follow the account, and retweet posts, and encourage others to follow, helps the Committee to get its message out.
It seems strange that anyone would want to disparage that.
(Also, you've got it backwards. Targeting a million followers is simply a way to encourage others to join.)
