NEW: Justice Brett Kavanaugh had to exit through the rear of Morton's on Wednesday night after DC protestors showed up out front. A Morton's rep told me: "Politics
should not trample the freedom at play of the right to congregate and eat dinner." https://politico.com/newsletters/playbook/2022/07/08/schumer-ups-pressure-on-mcconnell-in-usica-reconciliation-dance-00044652?nname=playbook&nid=0000014f-1646-d88f-a1cf-5f46b7bd0000&nrid=0000014c-2414-d9dd-a5ec-34bc527c0005&nlid=630318

(16,110 posts)a bill submitted and passed to ensure that no one can make eye contact with or speak to any right wing member of the Supreme Court.
Because, that's the real issue in this country, people saying things to people who don't want to hear them.
Those six unelected legislators do not believe in free speech if it is anything other than money or loud public prayer.

(4,618 posts)Restaurant workers will have their revenge.
I even recall a general manager of a successful restaurant pouring a little fish juice into a hamburger returned by an irate customer that, after biting into it, saw a speck of red in its center. The fish juice trick results in the diner eating several bites before feeling that the burger was spoiled. Obviously, the GM was happy if it resulted in never seeing the abusive diner again.

I feel terribly for Justice Kavanaugh.
He tried to make a choice, namely where his body should be and what should be inside of it.
Then a small group of people unrelated to him showed up and made it impossible for him to make that choice.
hey wait a minute!

(77 posts)Freedom of speech is limited by "time, place, manner" restrictions. Freedom of religion seeks to circumvent such restrictions and exalts personal 'religious' beliefs above all other considerations. Evangelical very rich RW orgs, the Federalists, the Repubs have discarded the (non)-Establishment clause in order to promote their socio-political agendas.

(22,482 posts)Honorable Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh and all of our other patrons at the restaurant were unduly harassed by unruly protestors while eating dinner at our Mortons restaurant. Politics, regardless of your side or views, should not trample the freedom at play of the right to congregate and eat dinner. There is a time and place for everything. Disturbing the dinner of all of our customers was an act of selfishness and void of decency.

And women all over the United States can't control their own bodies thanks to his stupid religion. Not to mention all the ashiest women prevented from exercising their beliefs that they have bodily autonomy.
Christians like him are nothing more than manipulative misogynists forcing their imaginary sky daddy on every American at the expense of bodily autonomy.

(101,321 posts)Oh, this is embarrassing! The right to congregate and eat dinner is actually not to be found anywhere in the Constitution. I have been studying the Constitution very carefully, including the emanations of the penumbras, and I can see why people might think there was some inherent right to dinner. Eating seems so fundamental: Whether or not you want to have steak inside yourself seems like something you ought to be able to determine on your own behalf. Eating and chewing, alone or in the company of others, feels as though it ought to be up to the person most affected, and protected from abridgment of any kind, even by the states.
But actually, there is a higher authority to whom we must answer on this question. The Bible (technically not the Constitution, but there are people working to fix that!) relates that Adam and Eve ate dinner, once, in public, and this was such a grave offense that they were kicked out of their home immediately and hassled with flaming swords. Mankind was then forced to develop farming and wear pants.
...
Some argue that even if this made any theological sense, theology should not hold sway in the governance of our country, where there is (or at any rate, used to be) something called the establishment clause that separates church and state. To this, the Supreme Court responds, You have hit adulthood, and you still believe in Establishment Clause?
Besides, it is not merely the Bible that suggests you have no right to dinner and are naive and wrong to think that you do. Why, didnt the philosopher Pythagoras believe that fava beans contained souls, and therefore avoid eating them at all costs? And where are fava beans served but at dinner? (Lunches and dinners, I suppose, if you are creative but that is not very originalist.)
