He is appearing at a stump speech for a couple of Nevada candidates tonight.
Also, he is scared to death of what might come out of the Committee hearing that is taking place in Washington, DC today.
He is desperate.
He is going to Alaska after he leaves NV and will probably tease Sarah Palin with the Vice Presidency, anything to control the news story of the day.
Bottom line, he believes that an official announcement that he is running for president will prevent an indictment.
Is that what is happening in TrumpWorld today?

(14,764 posts)Something about melania not wanting him to do it now. like that would matter to him.
But I suspect the donor class has warned him not to f' up the mid terms. That is the one thing he will listen to - money.

(6,229 posts)that trump thinks he can't be charged with anything if he's running. Not true. A MAGA repub running for governor in Michigan is charged in the Jan 6th insurrection.

(59,504 posts)There have been people running for lower offices that have been indicted -- usually leading to them dropping out. An indictment would be based on whether there is a solid case -- possibly a bullet proof one. As he was a President, the bar is realistically (even if unfairly) higher than other people. Even if the case is rock solid, the Trumpers will claim it is just a political witch hunt. (Just like Senator Graham speaking of the subpoena issued to him.)
It will be interesting to see how next week's hearings will go. If the Cippilone hearing echoed things that Cassidy spoke of it could further fix the story of what Trump did leading up to and on Jan 6. If the other hearing details links between two TERRORIST groups (even if no so designated) - the Oath keepers and Proud Boys - and the Trump administration it could make many life time Republicans more uneasy. That could make the devil's bargain signed by most Republican offices troubling to all but the Trump base.

(5,586 posts)The worst possible day to announce anything. The dude, for his myriad of faults, is still a marketing genius; and announcing today brings him nothing that won't be overshadowed in 5 days, and in 10 days it'll be forgotten by everyone except Democrats.
There's a war being fought in Europe, inflation is still a giant problem, interest rates are going up, oil is still expensive (and pricing relief that we currently have is probably temporary), Shinzo Abe was assassinated today, Roe was just repealed. News organizations probably wouldn't even cover his announcement.
And I don't think he's close to an indictment. I listened to Preet Bharara this week, and he was dumbfounded that the DoJ was caught by surprise by the recent testimony of the J6 Committee. DoJ has all these potential witnesses giving days worth of on the record testimony that is going to interfere with any prosecution.
And the thing in Georgia is a long way from an indictment. They have dozens of witnesses they haven't spoken to yet. And I don't think he's all that afraid of an indictment. I think he'd enjoy saying they don't want him to win so bad they made up some crimes to indict him with.
