(54,436 posts)If they can't distinguish between a gun and a cell phone with all that illumination, I think the whole department is in need of an assembly line type visit to the next optometrist.
Just kidding, of course. They knew full well that he was unarmed, and probably were scared that he was transmitting live to an off-location, and they didn't want to end up themselves like Derek Chauvin.

(6,265 posts)how power-hungry these men and women of the 'protect and serve' bunch have become. "On your knees and all the intimidating screams". They are disgustingly hateful with their guns. This is what trump wrought. Bet these two with the guns were 1/6 participants. Just whitewing evil...

Fairfax County Police Fatally Shoot Man While Responding To Person In Crisis Call
Officers and a mental health clinician were dispatched to the house, but when they arrived at 7:26 p.m., Lynch had left. According to Major Eli Cory, the mental health clinician spoke with the people who made the initial call and spoke with Lynchs family by phone.
Around 8:34 p.m., police received another call from the home, and three officers arrived at the residence. The mental health clinician did not accompany the officers on the second call, according to Davis, who said the nature of the second call was far different from the nature of the first call. (He did not elaborate further on what was said during the second call.)
When officers arrived, they entered the foyer of the home. According to police, Lynch, who was inside the home, was allegedly holding a bottle and an object believed to be a large decorative wooden tribal mask. Lynch allegedly threw the mask, at which point two officers attempted to use their tasers, according to police. He then allegedly ran towards officers swinging the bottle, and the third officer fired his gun. In the first press briefing early Friday morning, Davis said the third officer fired his gun several times. Lynch collapsed near the front door of the home and died, Davis said.
Department policy requires that the name of the officer who shot Lynch be released within 10 days, unless there is a credible threat to their safety. According to police, they are a 10-year veteran, assigned to the McLean District Station.
