Fox brings on a guest who was a recent visitor to Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, to complain about his tour guide over-emphasizing TJ’s history as a slave owner: “I just thought that Monticello would be protected from this disease of wokeism.”

If you know that it was TJ's home, you must know also that he owned slaves. STFU about taking offense that the docent thought you were a tourist from Trumpland!

And are the white Jefferson descendants still at odds with the Black Jefferson descendants, the ones stemming from his enslaved mistress Sally Hemings?

Magats can't handle the truth/history, they just want to call it wokeism.

She'd visited Monticello last year. Needless to say, much of the pissing and moaning about the "woke" guides don't match what she saw then, and it's doubtful it changed much.

The "problem" is that the staff at Monticello are passionate about history, not about renditions of "America, Fuck Yeah!"

13. How many times do Americans visit a historic home with intact slave quarters?

Not often. I never have, but I've never been to Virginia.

Jefferson was proud of those slave quarters, fucking crybabies.

I distinctly remember this being being pointed out as it was such a shock to my young mind. Seems about as "woke" as guides pointing out Washington's wooden teeth and the unfinished American flag while visiting Mount Vernon. Fucking liars. ...every one of them.

Monticello is a privately run organization and about 30 years ago they decided to include the history of slavery on the plantation as part of the tour. They were also in the process of excavating and rebuilding the homes on Mulberry Lane which was where the house slaves lived.
I went on a tour in 2018 and the docents gave a very good and thorough tour as well as explaining Jeffersons history of owning slaves as well as his relationship with Sally Hemmings. Jefferson was a wealthy man of his times who owned a large estate and slaves were part of the equation.

We have to be vigilant about this attack on history because it is clear that alot of Republicans are very uncomfortable with our nations checked past as it relates to slavery and racism and they would rather not have anyone talk about it at all.

19. So, what specifically was said that "downplayed" Jefferson's history?
Mon Jul 11, 2022, 05:32 PM

I didn't hear anything said that would downplay or degrade Jefferson. Did they not mention the architecture? Did they not say that Jefferson was instrumental in writing the Declaration of Independence?

OR did they merely mention the FACT that he also owned slaves and profited on that miserable institution.

Was it FACTS that destroyed your enjoyment of the tour?

I think that my father is a great dad and love him, but I also remember some not so great things about growing up with him. People are complicated. They do both good and bad things. People who deny that are delusional. I am almost positive my own children will say the same thing about me in the future, because I am not emotionally stunted and can accept that human beings are complicated creatures.

How sad it must be to have to exist in a world where you shut yourself off to humanity, where your "heroes" have to be all good and any mention of their humanity is an affront.
