4. He Said that he did not expect Mike Pence to be there on January 6

He said as Pro Tem, he would be presiding over the Senate.

Why was that, Chuck? What did you know? Who told you Pence would be absent?

5. I would think the deal is something like this:

McConnell agreed not to block the hearings or make a lot of nasty comments about it.

In return he retains his de facto senate majority, his senators face no consequences.

I am sure there were back room deals ahead of time.

9. He couldn't block House hearings. That's Speaker Pelosi's domain.

Grassley being prepared to confirm the EC votes in Pence's absence has come up in discussions here on DU. His willingness to do that may still come out.

10. If you recall, McConnell threatened Obama. So he could threaten Pelosi.

Obama knew Russia was interfering with the presidential election and wanted to make an announcement to that effect. McConnell said if Obama did that, he would rain all kinds of hell down on Obama who then kept his mouth shut.

This is Washington DC and McConnell is one of the most powerful men on the planet.
I assure you some deals have been cut.

What we see in public is the end result of the back room deals.

the Hatch Act, that close before the election. Technically he was correct but IMO President Obama could've risked it and spoken out, just as Comey did when he released that letter to Congress about allegedly newly discovered evidence against Hillary Clintion 11 days before the Nov. 2016 election, a clear violation of the Hatch Act.

What I'm saying is that McTurtle could threaten and yell as loud as he wanted to in the middle of 5th Ave., as they say, at Speaker Pelosi but it still couldn't stop her from forming a House select committee to investigate the J6 insurrection.

There are two obvious reasons why. One is that Speaker Pelosi runs the House and McTurtle has no say whatsoever over the operation of the House, and the other is that the election was OVER so there would be no violation of the Hatch Act. And forming a House committee would be no violation of it anyway as long as no public hearing was held or information released before the election.

12. McConnell could stir up all kinds of trouble for the committee.

And he has not done so. And his senators appear to be out of harm's way.

We will know soon enough what the story is.

If Hawley and Cruz are not touched, we know Turtle made a deal ahead of time.

This is how DC operates. We are outside the beltway so we cannot wrap our heads around the wrangling and deal making that goes on.

and Speaker Pelosi has nothing to do with deals with McTurtle keeping senators safe. Where did you get such an idea?

You might recall that both McTurtle and McCarthy had the chance to participate and appoint members to a joint House/Senate investigative commission but both declined.

Subsequently Speaker Pelosi formed the current House select committee to which McCarthy tried to appoint Gym Jordan and another known disruptor to the committee. Speaker Pelosi, acting within her power as Speaker, rejected them and asked McCarthy to appoint other, less disruptive representatives. He declined and decided not to participate on the committee at all.

And that has worked out well as the committee has been very effective in revealing trump and his cabal's complicity in the J6 attempted coupl

So, we are to believe Pelosi made some kind of deal (about what?????) with McConnell to subvert the J6 HOUSE Committee for some reason.

You can "assure" us all you want, but there is a basically zero chance Nancy Pelosi made any "deal" with old Mitch about anything at all, especially anything to do with J6.

lol this place is just something else sometimes.
