Ron De Santis should be called Pandemic Ron.

It's official. Covid is running rampant in Florida, just like Ron De Santis planned. I assume it must be planned since the absence of a proactive health program suggests that the spread of the virus IS the plan.

So, my anecdotal evidence of the contagion spread: Every year, around the Fourth of July, the Zonians, (people who were born and raised in the Canal Zone - or military people who were stationed there, however briefly), have a Reunion down on International Drive, near Disney. It's sponsored by the Panama Canal Zone Society and usually runs from Thursday to Sunday.

I didn't attend because I wanted to keep an eye on my husband's recovery of Covid, which he came down with three weeks ago. (He's now fully recovered.)

This year the CZ event was held the weekend after the Fourth. The last day was yesterday, Sunday. That's usually the day when everyone departs for their homes, which is in every state in the union and around the world. Well, as of tonight, a couple posted on the Facebook page for the group, telling everyone that they came down with Covid, and the wife wasn't feeling so well as early as Saturday. They also mentioned in their post that it was a large group that attended this year.

And I also got an email from a friend who lives in Alaska telling me that she went to the Reunion and has also tested positive for Covid. Her first time.

Ron De Santis is a criminal for hamstringing the state's early warning program, and for not supporting mandated masks or vaccines.

I wonder how many of them resisted boosters? I'll keep an eye on their page for updates.

The Panamanian families I was living with were not real fond of the zonians. Don’t really know why. The families treated us students with gracious hospitality

6. You just have to look at the strip that made up the Canal Zone to understand

the issue. The sixties was the time when someone rattled the Panamanian students which started the riots, and later, a bombing. It was the worst of it. But, the facts were hard to ignore.

A) A Panamanian never signed the treaty that resulted in the ten by 50 mile strip of land that straddled the Panama Canal. That was the Canal Zone

and

B) The Panamanian population was growing and the boundaries of the Canal Zone, especially next to the City of Panama, was forcing growth away from the main center of the city.

C) The Canal Zone was as close to nirvana for middle class Americans, that we would never get to see again in our lifetimes. Some of those Zonians, especially the conservative ones, were possessive about the territory. I had family in Panama so I saw the other side of the issue.

I think I met a few of the kids who were zonians And they were kind of snotty, it was a long time ago so memories could be wrong. Remember Ronald Reagan’s big issue was to keep the canal zone under American control. He ran and one with that but it never went anywhere. Just a phony issue from the early right wing outrage machine

10. Some of the conservative Zonians might have acted snotty to Panamanians.

Not all of them. Mostly, Zonians loved that extra shot of culture. They incorporated molas into their clothing, wore the beads of the Cunas, loved the Panamanian Cumbia. And of course, enjoyed the food.

But, some conservative Zonians never ventured into Panama to find out for themselves. They would have absorbed the culture through their friends, second-hand.

Democrats take it seriously. And we have to stay alive to vote all these MAGA bastards out.

The last major Reunion I went to, I only found two others who were as progressive as I was. Both were Jewish. And i got a really icky feeling when we hung back to talk about our concerns, and one of our MAGA-supporting friends came back to take a photo of us.
