The station owner's profit on a gallon of gasoline is typically two to five cents. That is immaterial of the pump price.

So...if the owner was making three cents on a gallon of $5 fuel, he's making three cents on a gallon of $4.75 fuel, but now that gas is a quarter cheaper per gallon the customers are starting to come back inside to buy sodas and snacks - which is where gas stations really make their money - how is that a struggle?

One of my late father's favorite expressions comes to mind: "You'd complain if you were being hung with a silk rope."
