Its not yet clear who will be the weirdest and most unfit Republican Senate candidate in November. But my early pick is Herschel Walker in Georgia. If he wins and he could this nation has truly lost its mind. The flashing red lights and blaring sirens are not just about the former football stars myriad lies and stunning hypocrisy. That kind of stuff doesnt necessarily trouble GOP voters in the least, given their continued devotion to Donald Trump, who counts Walker as a longtime friend. Its Walkers combination of utter ignorance and total confidence, which challenges even that of the former president.
Mind you, Walker does challenge even Trumps record of dubious achievement on the lies-and-hypocrisy score. For years, he railed against the irresponsibility shown by absent African American fathers. The fatherless home is a major, major problem in the Black community, he told conservative radio host Charlie Kirk in 2020. In a 2021 conversation with conservative personalities Diamond and Silk, Walker lamented: The father leaves in the Black family. He leaves the boys alone so theyll be raised by their mom. If you have a child with a woman, even if you have to leave that woman you dont leave that child.
That stance became a punchline when it was revealed that Walker, who proudly describes his relationship with his 22-year-old son Christian, is also the father of three other children of whom he does not speak and with whom he is not in regular contact. According to reporting by the Daily Beast, the mother of one of those unmentioned children, a 10-year-old boy, had to sue Walker to get him to pay child support.
Im old enough to remember when one secret love child was enough to end the political career of John Edwards, who twice was a credible candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination. Three secret offspring havent slowed Walker down any more than would-be tacklers did when he was barreling down the field for touchdowns at the University of Georgia. As for lies, Walker claimed he graduated from college when he didnt, claimed he had worked in law enforcement when he didnt, and claimed he owned the largest minority-owned chicken business in the United States when he didnt.

(2,525 posts)is more than safe. We will gain seats. I'm thinking at least 3 and we will no longer have to worry about the duo stopping anything
Midwestern Democrat
(806 posts)He's just too stupid to be a US Senator - the GOP really should have looked at the 2020 election results in Georgia and realized that Georgia isn't Alabama (a state where they COULD pretty much get any idiot they nominate over the finish line.)
Norbert
(6,040 posts)he would be at least 25% down in the polls.
I still don't see Walker winning. I think when the campaigns heat up in August-October, Walker will really look like a fish out of water.

(15,540 posts)If he should happen to win, America will have absolutely lost it's mind, though I also think we've already lost our way in this country when someone like Trump could have even had a snowball's chance in hell to be President and yet he was.

(54,411 posts)But the fact that people in Georgia other than Walkers closest relatives want him representing them in the United States Senate should be extremely disturbing, and it speaks volumes that it isnt.

(2,530 posts)It shouldn't even be this close.

(54,411 posts)I had two forward coronary arteries 99% blocked. That I hadn't dropped dead of a heart attack yet was pure luck, and was an even about to happen. He said hours, not days. The only thing the surgeon said to me in English was "just in time."
But here I am, 18 years later, alive and kicking. As long as one steps back from the brink instead of crossing over it, one has a chance of survival. With Trump, we came close, and we're still in critical condition, but not yet ready for that great historical body bag, much as the Republicans would like to put us there.
I would guess that their big guns all have open first class one way tickets to Sochi hidden somewhere among their readily accessible personal documents. Not jerks like Lindsey Graham or Clarence Thomas, but certainly Moscow Mitch and the Kochs. Dick Cheney has already moved Halliburton to Dubai. I'm sure it beat having the GAO pore over Halliburton's books after what they pulled on the U.S. Treasury in Iraq. I guess you have to be a well-placed Republican to act like the disappearance of $9 billion in cash into the Iraqi desert is a bagatelle unworthy of further investigation.

(2,343 posts)are proud to be ignorant. That's why they hate educated people and consider them elitist. Looking at their representatives in government proves my point. They love their government officials to be stupid as shit or to pretend they're stupid as shit.
