Since the insurrection, I have often wondered exactly what Trump's enablers, co-conspirators, and sniveling sycophants thought they were going to gain.
Did they envision themselves being given more political power? Did they imagine becoming wealthier by virtue of their willingness to go-along-to-get-along? Did they believe that if they succeeded in illegally installing Trump in the WH for a second term, they would be welcomed into his "inner circle", and thereby rendered invulnerable to being voted out of office - or even being prosecuted?
Did they fantasize about being rewarded for their efforts, praised for their treachery, elevated to higher political office in recognition of services rendered?
I'm sure they all did. But that's because they were too stupid to recognize the obvious - that while Trump demands loyalty from others, he doesn't owe loyalty to anyone. Once he has what he wants, everyone who helped him achieve it is forgotten, useless, and ultimately expendable.
That is the true irony here, that those who expected to be rewarded by their Dear Leader were dumb enough to believe that there was ever going to be a reward in the end.

(182,830 posts)Its one of the things that actually makes me kind of laugh about January 6th. Of all the times in the history of the world in which covering your face wouldnt arouse suspicion and they just couldnt. That the sign you are being used by your cult. Throw on a MAGA hat and youd be almost unrecognizable. I know there was a mob mentality and some serious white privilege but they had to know that ruled change if you go into a building. Every time I see the footage I just shake my head.

In other words, they should burnish their 'resumes', 'bona fides' , with extreme positions - just like 'con primary candidates still do.

(10,252 posts)They make (in their minds) others "wrong," so they can feel "right." We Buddhists see that as an example of "grasping at self." Trying to make solid and real all the delusions they tell themselves about who they are and how they exist in the world.
