President Joe Biden is not backing off plans to nominate an anti-abortion attorney to a lifetime federal judgeship in Kentucky, despite strong opposition from Democrats and reproductive rights groups, according to a source recently briefed on the White Houses plans.
White House officials have refused to talk about Chad Meredith ever since the Louisville Courier-Journal reported late last month that he is the presidents pick for a soon-to-be vacant U.S. District Court seat in eastern Kentucky. The newspaper even provided copies of June 23 emails from the White House to Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D) confirming Bidens plan to nominate Meredith, a member of the conservative Federalist Society who has fought abortion rights.
The White House initially told Beshear that Meredith would be nominated the next day, on June 24. But that turned out to be the day the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, and the nomination didnt happen. Now its just crickets.
Im just not ― we just dont comment on ― on vacancies, whether executive branch or judicial, in situations where we have not made a nomination, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters on Wednesday, when asked about Meredith. We just have not made a nomination on this yet.

(15,943 posts)Was going to nominate him the day Roe v Wade was struck down. Federalist Judges are why we can't have democracy!
Reconsider President Biden. Whatever Mitch promised he will not follow through. He is a known and proven liar.

(63,912 posts)It is against everything I've marched for, everything I have supported. To see this soul crushing report, which I fervently wish to be untrue, breaks my heart again, after the soul crushing Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade.
WHY?

(5,229 posts)there are anti democrat agitators ginning up this story to separate us again. I trust OUR President to practice politics that will ultimately benefit our agenda. Remember the pure is the enemy of the good.

(58,785 posts)In red states, Democratic choices usually, in most areas virtually always, come down to trying to choose the best of a list of sometimes-responsible-to-unhinged-extremist conservative possibilities.
We'll be seeing a lot of this because we've filled virtually all blue-state judicial openings first and now are left with negotiating with Republicans in Republican states where the big powers are conservative.
Don't be fooled by anti-Biden spin into imagining he's happy appointing conservatives who'll screw over women. (And take and remember names! WHO's pushing this?) Biden just explained that if we elect 2 more Democratic senators and hold the house this fall he'll be able to restore a national right to abortion.
It is DOABLE! But the voters must do their part.
