*camera zooms in on a light streak*

Me: "No, that's a background galaxy, my guy."

And it was! New discovery, I think, because Hubble only ever saw an opaque ring.

One of the best parts of the infrared is how they could peel away all the gas and dust to show the inner workings of the merging galaxies. This is a major advancement and the entire reason they designed Webb to work in the infrared.

I can't wait to see what they see when they start pointing it towards the heart of the Milky Way.
