Positive COVID test yesterday
I felt a little blah on Friday, more blah on Saturday, tired and some minor aches on Sunday. Took a test yesterday and found out I have COVID.
Came home, rested, and, so far today, I've been feeling sniffly (but with very thin product--more like allergies for me than a cold). Achiness is gone. Just had a cleaning burst (rare for me to dust and clean baseboards, but for some reason I was on it) but now resting again.
I have not had any trouble at night, other than being extra thirsty. Got up a couple times to get drinks.
I hope this is as bad as it gets for me and it was a real wake-up call. I was vaccinated (Pfizer) and boosted but hadn't taken the second booster yet--which I regret.

(14,643 posts)Im glad your symptoms arent laying you out flat on your back. Ive had 3 friends, all vaxxed and double boosted, who got Covid. One was very, very sick. The other 2 were sick, but not too bad
and theyre in their 80s.
Good luck with it!

(2,186 posts)I'm 51 and, when it all started, I made an effort to drop some excess weight (to try to cross off a risk factor). By going keto, I dropped 25 pounds (still about 8 over my "ideal" but hopefully it helps).
Definitely sniffly and definitely not energetic (apart from periodic bursts of energy) but hanging in there.

(6,205 posts)that has reported getting COVID. Two friends and they are up to date on shots and boosters came down last week. One had surgery two weeks ago and was back in her doctor's office for a post-op check up. The only places she has been is the hospital and her surgeon's office. My second friend teaches art classes for a nature preserve in Rock Port, Texas. She was diagnosed with COVID three days ago.
It is to the point where I don't want to leave the house for any reason. Like others here at DU even my friends who have taken all the precautions are getting COVID. We are all 60+ in age. Yesterday a friend was discharged from the hospital after a surgery on Thursday. Hopefully I won't receive a call from her (and she turned 80 in March) saying she has COVID.

(2,186 posts)From what I've read (I did some quick updating), this new variant is MUCH more transmissable that the original version. Thank God the vaccines have taken the edge off, for the most part. I seriously regret not getting the second booster. I know a nurse who did not get the second booster---she was waiting until the fall, when she thought it would be "new and improved" and then SHE got COVID. And she's 57. She's fine now, fortunately.

(6,205 posts)The friend who just had surgery also never gave up her mask wearing.

(2,186 posts)I got slack. I haven't flown in an airplane or anything like that, but I definitely relaxed too much. Not anymore.

(1,826 posts)Second booster effectiveness against these latest variants. I know multiple people who have been positive in recent weeks, and it doesnt seem like those with one booster vs two fare any better or worse.
Feel better soon!!

(11,029 posts)Double boosted, never stopped masking. We think my wife may have picked it up at work. She had it worse than I did, but she isn't double boosted. I was able to get Paxlovid which worked well, she wasn't, but is also improving. I still tested positive but I'm working (from home) today. The worst part now is the exhaustion - I've been working for a couple hours and am ready for a nap. The other issue I had was the Paxlovid seriously messed with my tastebuds - I never lost taste (I did lose smell for a day) but the Paxlovid has a weird, bitter, metallic aftertaste that would not go away until I completed the course of meds.

(9,815 posts)That's a GOOD DAY when you're my age. (Where the hell did I leave the tylenol?)
That said, I life in a "red" area and always use a mask in public places.
Best wishes.

(13,783 posts)I did just recently start going back to the YMCA for a class, but that's been a few weeks. When I recover from this, I'll stick to the outdoor pool only. From the sound of this variant, it's much more transmissable---so it could have really happened anywhere in public. I've been in stores, restaurants, etc. I do try to avoid packed spaces, but I'm definitely re-tightening up after this.
