(1,260 posts)Thou Shall Not Hold Bidens Accountable on DU. True Infallibility resides in Them!
Zero Internal Accountability is our ONLY path to victory, even More So to maintain our integrity.
Seriously folks, the First Lady's apology made me prouder than ever of both Bidens. She identified her mistake (we all slip up), owned up to it (like a role model for Class and Maturity), and SINCERELY apologized (The Democrat Way). Shows her high character, which Melania has never displayed. Repukes doubled down or say nothing, hoping that everyone would just forget it. Considering their bigoted cult followers, Repuke political leaders truthfully don't need to apologize.

(53,035 posts)How absurd. We lose because people don't turn out to vote or they refuse to vote for Democrats. This isn't an issue anyone votes on, so why are you making it a huge deal if you want it buried? The people telling us what to think are the ones who brought the whole thing up. I wouldn't even have known about it if I hadn't been scolded about what to think.
Newsflash: If you don't want to draw attention to something, don't post about it.

iemanja
(53,035 posts)I for one will not treat differently a mistake because it happens to be made by a Democrat. To assert everything Democrats do is acceptable is hypocritical, especially because if a Republican had done this, DUers would be all over it. The First Lady made a mistake and rightly apologized.
So what if RWers see a handful of Duers say the comment was a mistake? They don't need that for ammunition. They are far more likely to comment on the Democrats who defend things for no other reason than a Democrat said it.

(70,127 posts)it's called priorities. proportionality. this is like leaving a 1 star review for a 5 star restaurant because a fly flew through the room.

And yet, some in the Democratic Party are complaining about the President and his approach to governance. Sens. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Tina Smith of Minnesota have called on Biden to declare a national emergency over the rollback of abortion rights and to set up abortion clinics on federal land -- despite the legal ban on federal funding for most abortions, and the reality that such a move could put doctors and women at risk of arrest when they depart federal land within a state that has outlawed abortion.....
But the reality is that Biden has, in fact, done a ton of good despite GOP obstructionism. His American Rescue Plan invested more than $13 billion in minority-serving institutions of higher education, more than $10 billion in community colleges, $2.6 billion in Historically Black Colleges and Universities and about $190 million in tribal colleges and universities.
His policies -- especially the child tax credit in his rescue package -- reduced child poverty, keeping some six million kids from falling into poverty. Young people, and all of us who know and love them, should be singing Biden's praises for what he has done, not criticizing him for what the Republicans have blocked him from doing.
I am old enough to remember when it was right-wing Republicans who were hellbent on tearing down Democratic presidents like Barack Obama and Clinton; now the progressives are practically doing the GOP's job for them.
I have a radical proposal for my progressive friends: Stop attacking Biden and start attacking Republicans. If you think Biden is too weak, don't weaken him further for goodness sakes. Strengthen him, so he can lead the way forward.

(101,321 posts)DU is not such an important place that our reaction to it then affects others.
I would suggest, however, that no-one takes their opposition to stories like so far as to alert on them for being "right wing". If the post was hidden by a jury, that then would alienate the DUer who did nothing more than post a news story with significant coverage.
mopinko
(70,127 posts)i never vote to hide a story cuz i dont like it. that's not rly what i'm talking about.
i'm talking about the poutrage.
muriel_volestrangler
(101,321 posts)Seriously, you think there's someone stupid enough to waste their time comparing view counts of different DU stories and make something of it?
This OP seems to object to the other thread's existence. And I've served on a jury in the past few days trying to get an LBN OP that consisted of a legitimate news story from a mainstream source removed as "right wing propaganda" - it may have been that thread. Some DUer has the idea that DU shouldn't reflect political reality if they think it doesn't advance the Democratic cause.
mopinko
(70,127 posts)i'm sure there are algorithms to sort reactions too.
reality on this is slippery in the best of times, and atm i'm not sure it even matters.
read some chomsky about manufacturing consent.
muriel_volestrangler
(101,321 posts)I don't think there are opposition people trying to use Google Analytics to work out what interests DUers. I suppose I'd rather they waste their money on Google that put it to some other use. I don't think they'll be able to use it work out how to get fewer votes going to Democrats, anyway. And I don't think that self-censoring (ie not posting news stories if they're not 'good news for Democrats') would have an effect. If that's what you mean by "i'm not sure it even matters", then we seem to agree.
I have no idea where "Manufacturing Consent" comes into this, and I don't feel like reading a whole book to get your point.
mopinko
(70,127 posts)the debate doesnt shape itself. and polling/research companies absolutely are mining online forums.
muriel_volestrangler
(101,321 posts)which I doubt, then I can't see how they move from "some DUers posted and reacted to a mainstream news story about Dr. Biden apologizes for clumsy wording" to "aha, now we know how to make Democrats lose".
Is it that you wish there had never been an apology, but you take seriously your "never say anything bad about a Democrat" rule, so you can't criticize the apology, but are criticizing the reporting of the apology, as a proxy? The "don't take the bait" message would make more sense, then, if really aimed at Democratic operatives.
