5:49 PM Eastern time. CNN just showed an outtake from the 77 minute video of the Uvalda cops and a bunch of other fucking cowards standing around in the school hallway with their thumbs up their asses while children were murdered.
Every damn one of them had on kevlar vests and was armed with their own AR AND THEY JUST WANDERED AROUND WITH THEIR HEADS UP THEIR ASSES. ONE OF THEM PLAYING WITH HIS PHONE
Where is their command authority? Where are the sergeants taking command?
GODDAMMIT I'm an old soldier with two tours in Vietnam in the bush where it seems like I was in a gunfight every day. My son lost an arm in Iraq. Both of us RAN INTO THE FIRE . . . charged toward people shooting at us. And these lardassed muthahfukahs just milled around.
Sorry. I'm outta here before I get banned.
The shooter should have been dead in under five minutes.

(50,955 posts)saw a short snippet of it. Saw three officers run towards the room then turn and run away. Sickening to say the least.

(6,240 posts)IMHO, they should all be charged with accessory to murder.

(16,426 posts)I'm afraid getting all of them charged with accessory to murder may be too high a bar. But at the very least, they all deserve to be fired and none of them should EVER be allowed to wear a badge again.
Fuck them all SO hard, especially that Arredondo creep. As the one who was supposed to be in charge *gag retch* he's definitely the worst.

(81,322 posts)So what do you join the police force for, then? To strut around with a legitimate excuse to be heavily-armed and intimidating and all that rough-tough-macho shit? Like you're in a militia fashion show or something?
Is this some costume movie project or something, and you're the extras?
I'd assume anyone who goes into policing would HAVE TO be aware they're riding with death in the back seat every time they get into their patrol cars. It's an occupational hazard, and the risks are VERY much there and VERY public. And they're no secret. You go into policing, knowing that. You train with that in the back of your mind at all times. You're like the fire department - YOU run TOWARD the danger, voluntarily. You don't go into that line of work to operate the merry-go-round at the county fair or stock shelves at the local quickie-mart. You bet your life every day you show up for that kind of work and it ISN'T a secret. And it's not KEPT a secret.
Like a soldier faces, every day, and understands VERY well what he/she is up against.

Is it possible to identify the police officer who, 57 minutes into the #UvaldeMassacre decided to use the schools hallway hand sanitizer & then check his phone while 19 kids & 2 teachers were dying?!

Two tours? Sheesh man.
I was a Cav Scout for 3 years early 90s. No action.
Ive never been in the situation they were but at this point how could they not train for this? I mean you have to run through it in your head. Right? You have to be prepared.
2naSalit
(86,650 posts)Early reports showed they had trained for this recently and spent a lot of money on preparedness, or so it was reported.
So, dereliction of duty and accessory to the crime sounds about right.

(9,894 posts)that they weren't doing what they were trained to do. My bet is they were trained to wait for orders. The higher ups were debating who was in charge and completely lost sight of the problem at hand. The logical outcome of our current gotcha mindset.
I work in mental health. Since I have gotten into this field 20 years ago, it has become increasingly more advantageous to do only what one is told to do when one is told to do it. Best way to get into trouble is to take matters into your own hands. Even if it's the 'right" thing to do.

(348 posts)Also, I just wanted to point out that Kevlar does nothing to stop a rifle round. It take ceramic armor plates to do that
However, as a former law enforcement officer, I agree 100 percent that any one of those cops should have stepped up and taken the risk. When i signed on, I knew the risk. I knew I could get seriously injured or killed. I knew it was my job to run TOWARD the gunfire to stop it. I knew I would lay my life on the line to save another. That's why I did that work. That's why I went into fire fighting afterward. It's a public service job where WE are required to step up and put our lives on the line or lay down our own life to save that of an innocent. It sickens me when cowards like this wear a badge

(6,837 posts)I know 2 people who were warriors in the "nam". One of them described the technique as you said. To charge into the enemy and be confident they'll scatter. The other said he always volunteered to clean out the underground VC hiding/storage places. Said it was always cooler but hated the centipedes. In any case the cops in Uvalde failed to do the right thing. My experience is that Texans are quite proud of their football teams.
FakeNoose
(32,645 posts)I haven't seen anything recently that confirms that early story. The story was that one of the cops knew his kids were in danger, so he went in and got them out of another classroom. Left everybody else behind.
These guys need to answer for dereliction of duty, if nothing else.

I'd be willing to bet that the numbers of "heroic" persons among the police are equalled by those in virtually any other profession, and exceeded by most..

(2,012 posts)but overwhelmed when I saw that precious boy running into the aisle. He could have been my son, my grandsons or one of my ten great grandchildren. We must do everything we can do for the families of those children who died and for those who survived. The first thing must be: get rid of guns. The only reason guns are manufactured is to kill and make money. Tell the right-to-lifers to save born children.

(10,187 posts)What would an occupying army do if they heard a school was under attack? Not much.
They are trying to pretend they are a police force but they really are not. They are in our society to ensure the filthy rich's wants and needs are addressed and to protect the elite's property. Children being massacred is not their real concern. I suspect they finally went in to kill the shooter, after over 70 minutes had passed, just for show.
They are not here to serve and protect Americans like they pretend.
Capitalism at it's best....er worst.
