(90,780 posts)Acknowledging that and pointing it out is not, however.
Children and adults get raped. Rape is ugly and incredibly offensive. They also can become pregnant because if it. Religious wackadoodles want to force those of us with a uterus to give birth regardless of how we become pregnant.
Forcing anyone to carry a pregnancy to term and give birth is ugly and incredibly offensive.
Exploring the reality of what that means is not.
If you're going to force a child to give birth, then as a practical matter they will need maternity clothes. Pointing that out is not ugly, nor is it offensive, incredibly so or otherwise. It's the reality.
Listing the many issues involved in forcing people to give birth is necessary because those issues are real and will cause an already horrible situation to be that much worse - and those issues will have to be dealt with and not ignored, denied, left unsaid or hidden away because talking about them offends someone's sensibilities.
Especially since the harm caused by theocratic pieces of filth will only increase as those religious brutes continue their vicious campaign against black and brown people, women, LGBT people, and the poor.

(16,494 posts)Because it's not at all clear what you meant. Mutiple interpretations are possible, some of which would reflect less favorably on you than others.
Yes, it's incredibly offensive that Republicans all over the country are enthusiastically making laws that will force children who have been impregnated by rape or incest to carry the resulting pregnancies to term, no matter whether their bodies are mature enough to handle it or not. The fact that those children got raped or molested is ugly, but the truth is sometimes ugly.
Satirizing these ugly and offensive facts in a political cartoon is not even almost offensive, and neither is posting such a cartoon here. This is a political site, where we discuss a lot of issues that are ugly and offensive in various ways and share satirical material related to those issues, of which this cartoon is a stellar example.
Furthermore, we're not required to only post material that is suitable for children here at DU. This site is not intended for children. If that makes you uncomfortable, I'm sorry to hear that, but it may just mean that DU isn't going to be your cup of tea.

What's offensive is Gym Jordan and all the other putrid repubs calling the report about the 10 year old child's rape and pregnancy a lie.
The truth of what will now happen thanks to the USSC and the repubs isn't offensive, it's powerful and needs to be said, imo.

(36,502 posts)Is the cartoon offensive? Hell yes, but like a poster below stated, don't be offended by the mirror Luckovich is holding up, be offended by what the mirror is reflecting.

(16,494 posts)There is absolutely NOTHING misogynistic about this cartoon. The point of it is to satirize and mock the absurdity of the kind of Gilead Repukes want to turn this country into. If it makes some people uncomfortable, that is okay by me. The cartoonist is highlighting a disturbing and offensive situation that exists in our society.
No one wants to think about children being raped, but we can't solve problems by burying our heads in the sand and pretending they don't exist. Cartoonists like Lukovich force us to confront problems like this head and realize why electing as many Democrats to office as possible us of such paramount importance.
