The authors quote Pence, "I trust you, Tim, but you're not driving the car. If I get in that vehicle, you guys are taking off. I'm not getting in that car." The book adds that Tony Ornato told Keith Kellogg that Pence's details were planning to move the Vice President to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. Kellogg balked, reportedly responding, "Leave him where he's at. He's got a job to do. I know you guys too well. You'll fly him to Alaska if you have a chance. Don't do it." (Ornato's spokesman denied that account.)

If these accounts are accurate, it suggests that Pence was aware of the plan to remove him. But if Pence had been absent, and TFG had convinced his protective detail to take him to the Capitol on Jan. 6, would the blithering Grassley have been allowed to perform his duty? Or would TFG have ordered rioters to stand down and then certified the votes himself using the fake Elector slates? And now Secret Service phone messages from 1/5 and 1/6 have disappeared.

This whole thing was let out into the public realm to set the stage for his sequester or at least ouster from the Service if he's still employed there.

3. I have been misinterpreting the third thing all along...

I was interpreting it as Pence's SS detail wanting to get him to safety, and Pence's comment meaning he wanted to stay there at the Capitol and not let the mob win (and not look cowardly). Given the bigger picture of the coup, it seems Pence may have known that his safety wasn't the priority, but that removing him from being able to do his sworn duty was the priority, even by his own SS detail...in their quest to keep him safe.

I don't interpret it as Pence believing someone in the SS detail was going to off him at the orders of Trump (though I definitely don't think he would have thought the same were he under Trump's SS detail).

Pence to the Joint Base Andrews in Maryland?

Was it after the violence happened or before?

Seems to me that would make a big difference and we would know what was motivating Ornato and how much of a player he was in the big scheme.

And maybe that is why their text messages were erased.
