Local news coverage on WCBS-TV interviewing people on Staten Island and some have jaw-dropping stories. One woman whose house was completely destroyed was checked into a local hotel by her family. Today she was told to get out of the room because the Marathoners were coming and they had reserved the rooms.
Another person lived near the starting point for the Marathon and asked to use one of the Port-A-Pottys. She was turned away saying they were only for the runners.

And on another note, they should really cancel the marathon.
It can wait!

(6,996 posts)We saw volunteers who had set up tables passing out coffee, sandwiches, donuts and other food to people who were cold and in need. They had knocked on doors of houses not badly affected and asked for contributions of food and clothing for their neighbors.

(41,991 posts)I guess "disaster" is not the word in light of real disaster, but I think there's a real chance that angry citizens will interfere with it to the extent that the runners won't be able to complete the course and any times will be invalid. How they could have come up with such a clusterfuck in the midst of handling a situation relatively well is beyond me. People just amaze me sometimes.
