(7,634 posts)Secretary of the DHS Mayorkas is controling the secret service. They will be asked to provide all the information requested. The government agencies report to the current leadership, not Trump's. Career employees will comply or be fired.

Letter says:
The Select Committee has been informed that the USSS erased text messages from January 5 and 6, 2021 as part of a device-replacement program. In a statement issued July 14, 2022, the USSS stated that it began to reset its mobile phones to factory settings as part of a pre-planned, three-month system migration. In that process, data resident on some phones was lost. However, according to that USSS statement, none of the texts it [DHS Office of Inspector General] was seeking had been lost in the migration.
Accordingly, the Select Committee seeks the relevant text messages, as well as any after action reports that have been issued in any and all divisions of the USSS pertaining or relating in any way to the events of January 6, 2021. A copy of document production definitions and instructions is attached. Please contact staff for the Select Committee at 202-225-7800 to arrange for the production of documents.

(36,865 posts)The move marks the first time the select committee has publicly announced the subpoena of an Executive Branch agency and comes the same day the Department of Homeland Securitys inspector general privately briefed committee members on the discovery of the missing text messages.
The subpoena, directed at agency director James Murray who is retiring later this month demands the production of records by July 19.
The Select Committee seeks the relevant text messages, as well as any after action reports that have been issued in any and all divisions of the USSS pertaining or relating in any way to the events of January 6, 2021, Chairman Bennie Thompson said in a letter accompanying the subpoena.

(5,906 posts)Due process rights. So if anything the committee is requesting is incriminating, the employees have due process to protect themselves, and the agency has to work within those limitations. However, once the employees have had due process, its a whole new ball game.

(9,022 posts)... for J6 Committee staffers that was in that document. Gonna get some crank calls.
Also, the doc says that all docs relevant to J6 were requested from any DHS entity on 1/16/21, and again on 3/25/21. Is the USSS under DHS? Maybe that's why they didn't have any docs from the USSS?
So, instead of "her emails!" could it be "his texts!"
