A song by Todd Snider, “Conservative Christian Right Wing Republican, Straight White American Male”. I may get AR’d playing that song in my set list. I have to be carful to READ the Crowd. That’s pretty easy, they have a look. Too much red or any hat that’s red, I will play some Lee Greenwood……….NOT!!!!! Fuck em. They never come to my venues, usually micro breweries. They don’t sell Bud Light, Bush, or Natty light, and the TV’s never show NASCAR or Fox and. I pool tables.
Great Song, check it out. Todd’s a great genius lyricist.

I think it's a critique of a FOX news article (won't post link because of DU rules) that includes, toward the end, the following:

She’s also favored by adults 18 to 34, people of color and women. Yet she’s facing a favorability deficit among men (-24), whites (-24), and adults 55 or older (-22).

The actual headline is even more misleading: "Ocasio-Cortez's 'unfavorable' rating skyrockets, with most people viewing her negatively: poll"

here are some of the headlines about the Gallup poll

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Unfavorable Rating Climbs: Gallup

The congresswoman’s high profile so early in her term is exceeded only by that of Hillary Clinton in 2001, Gallup says.

https://www.usnews.com/news/national-news/articles/2019-03-15/alexandria-ocasio-cortezs-unfavorable-rating-climbs-gallup

and of course, the most biased of them all, Fucks Newz:

Ocasio-Cortez's 'unfavorable' rating skyrockets, with most people viewing her negatively: poll

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/ocasio-cortezs-unfavorable-rating-sky-rockets-most-people-view-her-negatively-new-poll-shows

Seeing that she is plus 4 among all women, she is obviously worse than minus 14 for all men, as women are slightly more than 50 percent of the population.

There is even a bigger difference between old people and young people.

I'm generally opposed to the concept of groups and, even more, to the concept of talking about whether one is underwater or above water with "them." I like data and, when it comes to conclusions, especially rhetorical implications, I like to see the work used to obtain the answer provided. This is not AOC at her best, IMO.

Their mind will see that phrase and their comprehension will go no further.

Media professionals know this. In fact, they count on it and many craft their "news stories" around it.

An old advertising trick. They know people will read "Nine out of ten dentists recommend Puke-It-Up gum" and miss the part that says "for their patients who chew gum".

but the headline doesn't match.

Poll of the week: A new Gallup poll finds that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has a 31% favorable rating and a 41% unfavorable rating. This makes for a -10 point net favorability rating (favorable - unfavorable).

This poll is very similar to a February Fox News poll, which gave Ocasio-Cortez a -13 point net favorability rating because of a 26% favorable rating and a 39% unfavorable rating.

The complement of that headline is not that she's underwater with "older white men" -- polling usually isn't done along intersectional categories.

What it means is she's underwater with all the other groups in each demographic category, ie. she's underwater with a majority of voters over the age of 34, and she's underwater with male voters, and she's underwater with white voters.
