Texts sent between US Secret Service agents on 5 and 6 January 2021 were erased after the agencys oversight body sought the communications in a review into the Capitol attack, according to a letter from the Department of Homeland Securitys Office of Inspector General (OIG).
The disclosure in the letter, sent on Thursday to the House homeland security and Senate homeland security and government affairs committees, marked the latest failure for the Secret Service amid increasing scrutiny of their actions over the attack.
Appearing to rebuke the erasure of the messages, the inspector general, Joseph Cuffari, decried the move and noted that the destruction came only after the body sought the communications as part of an internal investigation into the agencys response to the January 6 events.
The USSS erased those text messages after OIG requested records of electronic communications from the USSS, Cuffari said, including the emphasis on the sequencing of when the records destruction occurred.
*snip*
Leopold does FOIA request on January 11th
OIG and House request before they were erased.
At this point I cannot think of a reason for the destruction of texts messages that is not nefarious.

This feels like its own separate attack on our democracy.
Heads need to roll, people need to be prosecuted.

That a posted message (herein) was 'self-deleted' by it's author when the Original Posting is concerning message erasure...most-odd indeed (!).

I saw it before Dalton deleted. All it said was the dog ate them.
