Someone talk me down. I can't imagine living through another term. The MAGAts will be worse than ever.
And while you are at it: Please tell me we are not going to lose the House and Senate in the mid-terms.
Either way pm me a benzo.

(24,784 posts)I won't be surprised if things get worse before they get better.
This flirtation with fascism America is having...but, I do expect it has an expiration date.
Pendulums swing.
Hope that helps.

(82,849 posts)Is there something you're seeing that convinces you that those millions and millions of voters are suddenly going to cast a ballot for the former guy in 2024? What has he done since losing so bigly a mere 20 months ago that will reverse his standing with a majority of the nation's voters?
Don't listen to people who draw their paycheck by stirring the political shit.

(16,941 posts)Again, what has he 'done' that could possibly convince 1 who voted AGAINST him before to switch and vote FOR him?
That being said, I DO believe the Deomcrats could/should be continually posting the POSITIVE things that Joe and the Dems have done since we did get rid of IQ45. THESE NEED TO BE HEARD!!!!

(36,542 posts)Time has not been kind to the orange piece of shit. A lot can change in two years, but right now, I'd put my money on DeSantis. And I wish I could tell you that he can't win, but he most certainly can win.
As far as the house & senate, it's not a given that we will lose one or the other. I thought the economy would be the overriding issue, but I think the Roe issue is going to be a lot bigger than I first thought, cuz the repubs are taking it to such extremes. People are repulsed by children being forced to give childbirth, alarmed that travel restrictions for women are actually being considered, & pissed off at talk of banning birth control. And then there's Thomas' statement about other rights SCOTUS wants to strike down.
We're at the place where every election is the most important election of your life & we're partly here because too many of us didn't treat previous elections that way.

(1,693 posts)Orange Nazi appealed to the naive and or complete dumbasss cause he got them. Yeah he got them alright as he conned lied and cheated them just like the dirt bag completely amoral real estate/ car salesman he is. Hes just a dumb shit whos always looking for an angle to fuck someone ( in his case literally and figuratively as grab em in the pussy Donny).
So unfortunately for him and fortunately for us, he went too far with the insurrection stunt, so not even he can con his way out of this one. Thats not to say De Santis or some other version of a TFFG megalomaniac may get the nomination, but after the J6 committee has done such a good job of spelling it out for enough independent and moderate republicans, in my opinion our would be totalitarian menace is finished.
Of course that wont stop him from continuing to fleece his MAGA moron flock out of their money contributing to all his bullshit causes, which is just funds that go strictly into his personal pocket. After all, as Michael Cohen tried to warn people if they were paying attention, hes a con man liar and a cheat. Mic drop.

(1,495 posts)There just doesn't seem to be enough outrage about Roe. People are angry about inflation, the pandemic, gas prices. Even my democratic friends and family members are constantly complaining. People on social media are saying they won't vote for a republican, but they might not vote at all. I'm in New York and worried we will end up with a republican governor.

(84 posts)What will the price of gas be?
What will the price of hamburger be?
Interest rate?
Unemployment rate?
Are we still supplying arms to Ukraine? Poland? Finland?

(7,673 posts)one exception and that is if SCOTUS allows state legislators to decide electors going forward. Then all bets are off and we have lost what little is left. I sure that the "originalists" would love to see only white male landowners decide everything for this nation.
Now tell me again how brilliant our founding fathers were.....

(401 posts)I think we have a 50/50 shot at holding the Senate
I think we're going to lose the HoR.
The experts are predicting a jump in gas prices in late Sept/early Oct.
If I was writing ads for the 'D's - I'd focus on the info coming from the J6 commission and a pledge to codify Roe vs Wade.
I'd immediately remove marijuana from the narcotics list.
I'd give VP Harris a project she could get a big win on. It would have to go better than the immigration project. I think Pres Biden will be to old the run in '24, so it's time to start improving the VP's reputation.
If I was writing ads for the 'R's - I'd focus on the prices of every day items on Jan 19th, 2021 and the prices now. I'd focus on the gas shortages, the withdrawal from Afghanistan, and the immigration numbers.
As always it'll come down down to who can reach the non-political majority of the country that doesn't watch the Sunday news, or read 25 page plans to address a situation.
People make fun of bumper sticker slogans, but that's what people remember. We need one for issue on the table.

(1,901 posts)Unfortunately, trump can win in 2024. Will he? I dont know. Should he? Heck no.
I do think us or even gaining a seat or two in the Senate is plausible. The House might be another story.

(1,324 posts)I dont think hell even run. Hes just pretending to as part of the perpetual grift. Even if his mind and body can handle a run, his ego cant since he knows hed lose. DeSantis and his fellow sociopaths are the real ones to be concerned about.

(6,406 posts)To get any other potential Repubs out of the way. DeSantis and Cruz have painted themselves as Trump's heir, him running could thwart that.
If he can win, that's a loaded question. He can't win the popular vote. But the electoral vote? That's a different story. A lot can happen between now and then.
For example, if we codify abortion and he runs on retracting that. That's not going to help him. But if we fail to codify it and he runs on leaving it to the states...that gets him out from the spot light.

(54,448 posts)But, then again, he didn't do that the first time, either.
And, if anything, voting rights suppression targeting Democrats is approaching a high art, as opposed to the relatively primitive stage it was at in 2016.
