Ted Cruz says Supreme Court was clearly wrong with 2015 same-sex marriage rulingSen. Ted Cruz said the Supreme Court was off base in 2015 for its ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges that legalized same-sex marriage and believes it should be reconsidered.
"I think that decision was clearly wrong when it was decided," Cruz said on his podcast published Sunday, Verdict With Ted Cruz. "It was the court overreaching.
"Obergefell, like Roe v. Wade, ignored two centuries of our nations history. Marriage was always an issue that was left to the states. We saw states before Obergefell, some states were moving to allow gay marriage, other states were moving to allow civil partnerships. There were different standards that the states were adopting."
Cruz's remarks come on the heels of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade and determining there is no federal constitutional right to an abortion. Last month, Justice Clarence Thomas referred to the 2015 ruling as "demonstrably erroneous" and suggested the court revisit other rulings.

And for 300 years before that, the right to be not enslaved was left up to the states! You got a problem with that????"

(16,883 posts)Doe that mean you support overturning Loving as well? I mean, "states rights" and all.
The states cannot and should not be the ultimate arbiter of what this country is and what this country accepts. If they were, we'd still be living in open segregation and Jim Crow. I'm so tired of this "states rights" nonsense. We tried that approach once under the "Articles of Confederation" it was a terrible idea and it failed miserably.

Does he realize for much of the first century of Americas history the 14th Amendment did not exist?
Does he know that before Brown v. Board and the Civi Rights Act that segregation and Jim Crow were enacted by states?
Also, would somebody mind telling me what good honoring and following history is if its the wrong side of history?

They seem to be having trouble getting their signals to work. They are all over the place this summer.

(82,849 posts)Really, Ted? So for most of our nation's history, if you were married in, say, Mississippi, you weren't married in Ohio? Because that's some Grade A bullshit right there.
