Read this story a few days ago and it hasn't left me. San Diego cops stood by while a woman was terrorized by a stalker in her home for 12 hours, even as neighbors begged them to do something. Stalker then emerged and told them the woman was dead.

NBC 7 Investigates: San Diego Police Face Scrutiny Over Woman's Murder
Neighbors called 911 begging for help nearly two hours before police arrived to the victims Rancho Penasquitos home.

Wilted flowers mark the outdoor staircase leading up to the condo where police say a San Diego man murdered Connie Dadkhah, 45. That man, Parrish Chambers Jr., 44, is now sitting in a jail cell without bail awaiting trial for murder.
Yet three of Connies neighbors who spoke with NBC 7 Investigates feel police deserve some of the blame.
Had they just done their job, she would still be alive, said Michelle.
Its incredibly upsetting, said Mike. Its really unbelievable. Very, very scary.
I just feel such a strange combination of anxiety and anger and sadness, said Sally. It could have been prevented.
In order to protect their identities, NBC 7 Investigates is using fictitious names for the neighbors.
Officers found Connies lifeless body inside her condo Wednesday morning, June 15. But neighbor interviews, dispatch records, 911 call timestamps and surveillance video all gathered by NBC 7 Investigates show the calls for help started nearly 12 hours earlier.
*snip*
Tell me again why we need so many cops?

(24,334 posts)And that's with thirty years on the job. They can literally retire in their early to mid-50s and if they live to be 75-80 they can literally make more money in retirement than they made working.

(17 posts)My pension for 30 years as an RN in one of the largest hospital systems in Texas is $1,860/month. But if the Republicans get their way and abolish pensions it will be pensions like mine that they go after, not police or military pensions.
Mr.Bill
(24,334 posts)Same pension program as cops. He did retire as a Captain. He was 53 when he retired.
His monthly pension check is over $10,000 after deductions.

(17 posts)Pensions vary wildly by state and city. So much of the US is protected by volunteer firemen with no pensions. Nursing was no picnic but I never had to run into a burning building either. And relatively few nurses have a pension, much less work long enough at a place with a pension that the pension is decent.

(89,280 posts)but reading this he was outside trying to get in and officers didn't arrive until an hour after first call for help.
And he has a record and had been after her since at least 2 years ago.
So the piece of shit should not even have been free.

(9,087 posts)have been 14 minutes but it was 45 minutes. They knocked on her door and could see the broken glass but they didn't go in. They left and came back the next morning when the killer told a neighbor to call 911 because she was dead.

(8,938 posts)The police department for that area of San Diego, is literally 2 minutes away.
Driving distance is only about half a mile.
We celebrated a wedding at that complex's "club house".
I always thought it was safe with the police department near by.
