McMinn County Tennessee 1935-1946.. The MAGAs of their time were quite adept at voter suppression, election rigging and ballot box stuffing. Then the Soldiers and Sailors and Marines came home from WWII. They were considered easy marks by the early version of trump supporters, and were routinely harassed and fined. The Sheriff wanted to keep his job and the graft that went with it and he had the armed thugs to make it so. Good won out over evil. In 1946. The Vets kicked Neanderthal ass, literally. Freedom and Democracy were restored to McMinn County, TN by those who swore an oath. The enemies back home were worse then those they fought in Europe and the Pacific, because their thievery of freedom was personal.

THE FIGHTING BUNCH by Chris DeRose. A fairly new and enlightening read.
I don’t know the author and make nothing from the sale of the book, but it belongs in every library in the country.
