I still am very sensitive that a sitting President and his accomplices tried to coup our democracy.

It took Nuremberg prosecutors 6 months to start the trials were 18 months in after 1/6.

Yet he's done nothing.
President Biden made a poor choice for Attorney General.

(1,157 posts)Garland needs to take a hard look at himself. tRump is an existential threat to the nation and if Garland chooses to do nothing just because the mob boss announces he is running for office again, then the nation as it was founded will end and we become another despotic authoritarian with zero civil liberties and freedom.

(9,034 posts)are you certain about that?
passage in question:
Garland showed his hand in adding Barr's directive from 2020 that there is to be no investigation of any candidate who announces he or she is running for president.
I read that he does not want investigations too close to an election, which seems reasonable. If your passage is true, it's pretty fucking stupid since the 2024 election is quite a ways off.

The memo, which was first reported on by MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, demands that investigators receive written permission from the attorney general before opening inquiries into individuals running for president or vice president, or into senior members involved in their political campaigns. It also limits what DOJ officials can say or how they can proceed in an investigation of such persons.
Getting written permission before opening an inquiry into people running for prez is potentially quite different from not investigating any prez candidate at all.

(6,477 posts)We needed a serious and aggressive prosecutor. We got an institutionalist law professor.
It will cost us dearly.

(21,395 posts)but this memo is designed to prevent what James Comey did to Hillary. On the other hand, if only AG's under a Democratic president follow the memo then it is bs.

(24,890 posts)Or maybe disappointed in himself for selecting the "institutionalist" mushy AG?
Or maybe waiting until the end (2022 or 2024) to think about it?
I admit when I make mistakes in hiring which I have done in the past.

Almost every one of these threads misrepresents what the memo actually reads

(7,638 posts)And I am thinking about doing some felonies in the meantime. So I don't want be prosecuted until after the election because it might interfere with an election because I can't Cast a vote from the pokey. I want the same rights as kings. Err. Politicians.
