Wish congress had shown such urgency before Roe v Wade was overturned...

...as they are now w/ marriage equality.

Just saying.

And please don't say "no one could have known" this. We knew. MAGAt has been packing our courts for years so they could impose extremist Christofascist laws upon a populace largely opposed to them - since they could not do so legislatively.

Not to preclude unsettling actions once seated! Yes, it would appear that many in Congress saw any effort to repeal as a bridge too far, therefore not warranting pre-emptive legislative codification.

But, I will proudly stand up for those that are facing the loss of their right to marry the person they love. The time to stand for them is now.

Unfortunately, we will have to come back and fix womens rights later. Not the ideal situation, but we have to deal with the attacks as they arrive. And, they’ll come hot and heavy up until Election Day.

That demographic inevitability meant they were an election or two away from irrelevance.

It made us lazy.

It should be clear now that the Republicans are not going away. Yes, we cheer as GA goes purple, with a presumed path to blueish like VA. Yet at the same time, we are losing ground in PA and FL, and to a lesser extent the upper Midwest.

Not that it would be easy, but there should have been maximum pressure EVERYWHERE.

In Congress, in the streets (there was, but just not enuf). It should have been constant, and the MEDIA should have been out there covering every march in every town.

After the “Extreme Court” (AKA Human Rights killing machine) struck down Roe, The House took up a bill and it passed.

But the Senate couldn’t even get that far. “DED, DEAD”. If I’m not mistaken, there wasn’t even an up/down vote. The EU Parliament had a vote. And guess what, they think our SCOTUS is full of it. AND by a pretty good margin. They think American women should have control over their own bodies. How nice. Can I live in Europe? I’ll bring a fan.

I am absolutely thrilled they are making noise about marriage equality. But remember, marriage equality involves every American voter. Doesn’t matter your sexual identity or preference.

Although males are involved in intercourse, they are not physically involved in pregnancy. And many seem to think it’s OK to not pay child support if they aren’t forced to. So, we women are still, deep down, alone when it comes to our rights to carry/not carry a fetus to term. And we are being told, by mostly males that we should be happy that we are allowed to drive and to vote and to go to school. Many males still envision us as having to earn what they are innately born with. I can’t help feel the same about the two majority political parties in this country. It always seems as if the Republicans think their party is the natural innately superior party. WHY??????

And “Abortion rights” continues to be that huge campaign donation machine. Yea, the whole fecking thing stinks.

You're right -- we've known the Republican end game on Roe v Wade -- yet far far too many Democrats and independents who support abortion rights sat on their hands in 2016.

instead of turning both houses of Congress over to Mitch McConnell, that twerp from Wisconsin, and the rest of the GOP. No Moscow Mitch as Senate Majority Leader=no Gorsuck, Boof Douche, or Coathanger Amy. and no a whole lot of other awful stuff.

of the "blame Democrats first" for Republican acts mentality. Roe v. Wade was settled law for nearly 50 years- until it wasn't. We have a Supreme Court Justice (and probably confederates on the bench) who are chomping at the bit to do more. When something isn't in immediate jeopardy, other things take priority, especially when, in the last 30 years or so, Democrats have controlled or will control the WH and Congress for a grand total of *checks notes* 6 non-consecutive years and the last 4 with a severely obstructionist GOP that practically refuses to let anything come to a vote without Republican support. It's not like, however, people haven't been warned about what the electoral consequences of sitting at home and/or protest voting and allowing Republicans to win elections at every level year after year after year were going to be, especially in 2016. BTW Congress did recently attempt to codify Roe but couldn't get the votes to overcome the filibuster and Traitor Joe also refused to vote for it.

any Republicans would have voted with us to codify Roe? The only reason we can do this is we have GOP support. But please...continue...I mean it is always the Democrat elected's fault, right? Of course if the 'but her email' crowd had voted for the Democratic nominee in 16, we wouldn't be here now.

as seen with campaign finance and voting rights.

The urgency was made clear during elections but dismissed by people and it will happen again as we already see with people wanting Manchin to be replaced with a republican .

That was the first Presidential election after Roe was decided. It was also the first time that the Republicans added an anti-abortion plank to their platform. Then came the election of 1980. I just knew that was the beginning of the end.

I just don’t buy that they couldn’t see this coming. The Democrats were just too weak, lazy, and afraid of offending the Republicans to do anything about it.
