You say that Trump loves the "little people", the hardworking middle-class. So tell us about the times he mingled with such people.
Tell us about all the events he hosted for people who couldn't cough up ten, twenty - even a hundred thousand dollar donations to his campaigns.
Tell us about the times he played golf at public courses, so he could rub shoulders with people who couldn't afford $120,000-per-year membership fees at fancy country clubs like his.
Tell us about the times he dug into his own pockets to make a donation to a charity that helped the poor - or even the struggling middle-class folks down on their luck. He claims to be a billionaire - so why has he never given a penny to charity?
Tell us about the times he's opened the doors of Mara-Lago to you "little people" who think he loves you, so he can hob-nob with farmers, plumbers, and factory workers.
We all know that you Trump-worshippers have deluded yourselves into believing all kinds of things - but believing that he loves and cares about you is the most pathetic delusion of all.
Donald Trump has spent his entire life avoiding any and all contact with people like you. He despises everything about you - from your calloused hands, to your two-bedroom/one bathroom trailer, to your grimy kids who reek of tuna casserole dinners, to your cheap haircuts and Goodwill clothing, to your garage-sale decor and your treasured "McDonald's Employee-of-the-Month" plaque that hangs in a place of honour over your fake plastic fireplace.
Donald Trump despises you - always has, always will. And if you haven't figured that out by now, you are beyond hope.

right there. tfg has allowed racism to flourish to the point people are emboldened to show off their racist beliefs and hate speech in public and not keeping it to themselves.

(70,577 posts)... getting 14 million dead world wide, for 1/6/21, or he can just be dead ASAP but Trump did go right
for their racist hearts. A good example was in the the fall of 2018 he came to Lebanon, OH and praised
Robert E. Lee and that was no mistake because that area is the home of the Klan in OH.
I dealt with some of his MAGA people in OH on election day and some were just fine but some were biker
types just looking for a fight @ the precinct I was working at and we had reports of them doing it all over.
If America and the world had stopped Trump/Putin in 2016 we wouldn't have the C-19 Pandemic, the war
in Ukraine, or the 1/6/21 attempted coup.

(5,935 posts)Here's an interesting New York Times article from 2020.
Trumps Philanthropy: Big Tax Write-Offs and Claims That Dont Always Add Up
New York Times, October 23, 2020
And according to his tax records, he has given back at least $130 million since 2005, his second year as a reality TV star.
But the long-hidden tax records, obtained by The New York Times, show that Mr. Trump did not have to reach into his wallet for most of that giving. The vast bulk of his charitable tax deductions, $119.3 million worth, came from simply agreeing not to develop land in several cases, after he had shelved development plans.
...
Mr. Trumps pronouncements of philanthropic largess have been broadly discredited by reporting, most notably in The Washington Post, that found he had exaggerated, or simply never made, an array of claimed contributions. His own charitable foundation shut down in 2018 amid allegations of self-dealing to benefit Mr. Trump, his businesses and his campaign.

(6,231 posts)RW talk radio and fox news has propagandized those folks to believe they want a law & order white world. They think they want a return to the 1950s when women, minorities and LGBTQs didn't have rights. They think this will make them be better. It is truly amazing how fast they are working to overturn everything gained since the 1960s.

(4,591 posts)They see their leaders more like monarchs or dictators. As long as their kings and queens spout the white supremacy lies, the republican bumpkins don't care if they have a democracy or not. They see Trump live like a pampered king and they don't care, because Trump is a white supremacist. The average republican would give up every freedom fought for by generations of Americans to live in what they see as a fascist utopia, in which women and minorities have few if any rights, and phony Christianity is the state religion.
You nailed it.

(17,947 posts)Simply put, Trump makes it cool again to hate brown people and act like a misogynistic asshole. It explains his strong appeal to white males with lower educational attainment. It's classic reactionary behavior. The country is changing socially and economically and that scares the shit out of that demographic. They feel that they can't compete with women and brown people in general, thus the need to "keep them in their place." It plays hand in hand with their feelings of entitlement where white males supposedly deserve a bigger chunk of society's resources just for being white and male.
Of course, if they hadn't slept through algebra, chemistry, etc. in high school, maybe they wouldn't BE in this predicament. That behavior drove me nuts back then and invariably, they're all magats now. It caused me to "faceplam" then, my opinion of them hasn't changed in 40 years.
Your explanation of why they like him is spot on. I couldn't agree more. When they talk about entitlement, it's the entitlement of the white male, lower educational attainment people who just assumed they didn't have to do what it takes to be more prosperous.
In my experience it's not that they slept through algebra and chemistry. They didn't even take courses like that. All they had to do was take general courses, get a C grade and be an athlete and they were revered. Then times changed but they didn't want to change with the times.
As a female who went to high school in the 60's and who came from a poor, "working" class family (my father worked sometimes, sometimes we lived on unemployment - all nine of us), I took all the college prep classes I could, worked my butt off to get A's and B's, couldn't go to college until I was much older, but I still went eventually and received two degrees, I'm just the sort of woman they want to push back into the kitchen to make sandwiches for men. They are afraid as hell of women like me and any brown skinned person who works just as hard to improve their lot in life.

(13,192 posts)There's a great movie on Amazon Prime, "Unfit." It's pretty good about the motivations of Trumpies. There's an Axelrod quote that is something like, "People will vote for people they don't like but not for people who don't like them." It follows from that that we don't want to unnecessarily dislike people.
It's not true that Trump despises his Trumpies, imo. He loves them as audience and "power supply." That's plenty enough love for them. They gladly and willingly think of themselves as in a lower role than him, and they don't resent him for it. On the contrary, their grateful someone is taking the role of leader and living under the Sword of Damocles.

(11,609 posts)The "plain" talk made his supporters feel he was one of them--not a member of the elite. When tRump claimed to forego his salary to save taxpayer dollars because he didn't need it (successful business man ) his supporters never even thought for a second he could be lying or grifting for much, much more financial gain.
Of course, tRump also was draining the swamp according to his supporters. He was, too, but it wasn't a swamp. It was all non-sycophants who vowed to kiss his ass in government. It was people loyal to our US Constitution and laws. He was purging them all.
Let's not forget the icing on the cake--tRump told them they were patriots and gave them all 'the feels'.
