You know, get the persecution complex all fired up for his minions before the hammer drops.

was a bit of a misnomer all along (IMO). I think the point always was - the department does not owe anyone, including the general public, daily briefings or frequent 'updates' and progress reports. Not how they work - and (again IMO) they've been pretty plain in saying so.

They can certainly choose to do so - if they feel there is some advantage ... But purely to appease public clamor .. ? Anyway - the key here is, 'at their discretion.'

I can’t prove it, of course. Just seems like there must be a good reason for this info getting out.

We have been told with total certainty that "the DOJ doesn't leak", period. Just read the posts and OPs. We are told that Garland, specifically, never leaks in any of his investigations.

To be generous, (and probably overly kind) - people say a lot of 'stuff' on DU. And, as I made perfectly clear, this is my interpretation of the 'issue.'

On the one hand, the DOJ normally does act in the shadows. The perps aren't supposed to know how close the feds have gotten to nailing them.

On the other hand, in this case we have a giant rolling case of thousands of potential defendants, a shit ton of Republican Party members, and an ex-President intent on destroying our democracy (and one that has been given a megaphone by the media to peddle his disinformation and propaganda). The PEOPLE want to know the progress of the investigation because, well, the future of the republic rather depends on it.

The J6 committee has blown Trump's cover, and people have increasingly been clamoring for indictments. The balance has been tipped.

Frankly, I commend the DOJ for keeping mum all these months. And I commend them now for a controlled release of information that both informs the people AND the perps that justice is coming.
