My cousin is taking care of my uncle who is 91 and as you can suppose his health is declining. One of my cousins nieces wanted to bring her kids to visit grandpa and was told it was fine but to remember to bring masks. They drove from Oregon to Southern California and when they showed up announced that they didn't support wearing a mask and totally refused. My cousin said that is fine then shut and locked the door in their faces. Her niece actually called 911 to report a kidnapping and elder abuse. The sheriff came out, found out the whole thing was BS and really chewed them out. They left without me seeing them but next time I do I fully intended to slap the stupid right out of her and her husband.

(36,914 posts)They don't love grandpa enough to wear a mask to visit him.
That explains it completely.

NONE of them EVER even REMOTELY think to question masks or vax but for comments from the dumbest human being alive.

I've seen family drama in this regard....

(9,202 posts)I didnt do family law (divorce/custody/support), but I handled a number of will contests. Its absolutely nuts. Ive seen families destroyed over a $50,000 estate. I drove Mom to the doctor and hair dresser for ten years! I want $15 an hour for my time, and mileage, over and above my share, or else!
When real money is at stake, its sometimes even worse.

(1,544 posts). . . that you, your cousin, and especially the uncle/grandpa had to experience this.
My son is a rabid COVID-denier. It took threats from me to contact Child Protective Services to get his two boys vaccinated. He was arrested when he tried to enter their school without a mask, and got in the face of the school security officer (who took less shit from him than I do).
All this is sad but it's an expected result of the lies that have been spewed among us for decades.
Don't give an inch. NOT ONE INCH.

(11,771 posts)I'm not sure I understand what you mean they left without seeing you? Are you on site and also caring for your uncle? Or, not on site, and couldn't be there at the time of scheduled visitation? In either case, violence wouldn't be the solution. It would have caused trauma for your uncle, and you would have gone to jail. I understand the sentiment, but, you're going to have to deal with these people in reasonable and legal fashion.
Maybe contact them privately now, and express your disappointment.
Then, prior to the next visit, make clear you will be on site, supporting your cousin's commitment to protecting your uncle's health. Inform them, if need be, police will also be on site to ensure your uncle's safety. They will probably either decline the visit, or show up with masks.
Best of luck. I'm so sorry for the unnecessary stress. Take care. ❤

(11,771 posts)Supporting your cousin. I gently urge you to come up with a plan for the next visit, for your uncle and cousin's sake. Anyway, that's all I will say, other than, best to you and yours. ❤

(61,711 posts)Your niece and her children missed the opportunity to see a loved family member - maybe their last chance to do so - just because of mean politics. And your uncle and you and others suffered too. I'm so sorry.
