(344 posts)Democratic Party was the one and only party that believed in democracy, so they wanted to get away from the adjective form of the word. This dates back to 1984.

Interestingly, it turns out that those early 1980s Republicans were justified in thinking that people might see the Democratic Party as the only party of democracy, which all played out on January 6, 2021.

(36,518 posts)instead of the correct title the Democratic Party.
They haven't matured past junior high age.
I have a right wing cousin who complained to me that our side thinks their side is stupid & I said in our defense you vote against your best interests, a big contingent of you are prone to hair-brained conspiracy theories, & you keep using a noun as an adjective.

(66,462 posts)Their comically substandard brains get exhausted after three syllables. So Democratic is just too tiring for them to hang in to the end of the word.

(22,048 posts)Should they say Democratics? Doesnt that sound awkward?
As DUer Mousetoescamper wrote above, it started with Limbaughs typically juvenile name calling. (Im glad that fucker is dead.)
And as jimfields33 wrote, perhaps theres a grammatical rule.
As far as name calling is concerned, the worst thing I can think of is to call someone a Republican. And Trump is the most horrible name Ive ever heard. I dont need the nicknames.
The word "Republican" is both a noun and an adjective.
"Democratic" is the adjective. Members of the Democratic Party are Democrats.
When the noun is used as an adjective, it becomes a slur.
Example: see the difference between saying that someone is a "Jewish doctor" and saying that someone is a "Jew doctor."

(21,193 posts)With the Emphasis on the rat at the end. Limbaugh just emulated him.

(3,281 posts)I don't know that Joseph McCarthy started it, but Limbaugh popularized it and made it his trademark.
