Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin offered lukewarm support for President Joe Bidens running for re-election in a new interview released Thursday, just one day after striking a new deal on climate, healthcare and taxes.
In an exclusive interview on The Chris Cuomo Project, a podcast by incoming NewsNation anchor Chris Cuomo, the West Virginia senator hedged around who he would support in the impending 2024 presidential election.
I dont know who is going to be running. If Joe Biden runs again and he is the Democratic nominee, depending on who the Republican nominee is, we will just have to wait and see, Manchin told Cuomo. I am not predicting anything or how I would support or not support, or get involved or not. But I can tell you this, whoever the elected president is Democrat, Republican, independent every one of us should pray they succeed. I am going to do everything I can to make that person successful.
Cuomo pressed Manchin: I dont think I have ever heard a sitting senator that is a member of a party not automatically say: Oh yeah, the sitting president is in my party, Im for them.' Manchin responded: Well, I dont know what to tell you on that. Im always for the right person when theyre running.
I agree with Cuomo. Seems to me that the endorsement should be automatic, unless the candidate is a MAGAt, which clearly is not the case here.
The concerned Susan Collins, and other republicons he's endorsed over their DEMOCRATIC opponents, is smiling.

He has been playing ball lately, why bash him right before the mid terms? :

(10,434 posts)the automatic answer from any Democratic officeholder should be HELL YES.
It's telling that anyone would be more bothered by the questioner than the fact of Manchin's answer.

There is always someone who doesn't endorse the incumbent. Remember Ted Kennedy?

(10,434 posts)Nothing more need be said, unless you have a DAMN good reason for refusing to support Biden over the republicon opponent.

(4,008 posts)What is wrong in showing uniity? A good lesson for us to learn especially in got ya politics. Biden is doing a dam good job juggling massive amount of crisis and he turns around a few people stand with him. Makes one go crazy.
In the upcoming midterms we best get it together before we all fall together

(36,895 posts)I can't see that his lack of endorsement really makes a difference considering that it's WV.

(10,434 posts)"Do not post support for Republicans or independent/third-party "spoiler" candidates. Do not state that you are not going to vote, or that you will write-in a candidate that is not on the ballot, or that you intend to vote for any candidate other than the official Democratic nominee in any general election where a Democrat is on the ballot. Do not post anything that smears Democrats generally, or that is intended to dissuade people from supporting the Democratic Party or its candidates. Don't argue there is no difference between Republicans and Democrats."
That pretty much sums up what he does.
