Republicans' next big play is to 'scare the hell out of Washington' by rewriting the Constitution.

Republicans' next big play is to 'scare the hell out of Washington' by rewriting the Constitution. And they're willing to play the long game to win.

As former Republican senator Rick Santorum addressed Republican lawmakers gathered in San Diego at the American Legislative Exchange Council policy summit, he detailed a plan to fundamentally remake the United States.

It would become a conservative nation.

And the transformation, Santorum said, culminates with an unprecedented event: a first-of-its-kind convention to rewrite the Constitution.

-----------------------

Summary:

The conservative movement isn't done reshaping the Constitution from the ground up. Conservatives are now pushing an unprecedented convention to re-write the US bedrock text since 1788. So far, 19 GOP states have joined a rapidly-growing conservative movement to call a new convention.

..My Comment: The modern GQP and its enablers want to take us back to June 20, 1788, the day before New Hampshire became the ninth of the 13 states to ratify the Constitution. They want to throw out the whole document and write a new one, starting out with conservatives' bedrock principles: the United States is a Christian autocracy governed by one large corporation led by a white male who has virtually unlimited power and who serves for life or until the corporation is no longer profitable.

Article I Section 1: No law shall be made by any government entity which infringes on
an individual's right to own an unlimited number of weapons of any type.

Article II Section 1: Spending on the military shall proceed without limits.

Other provisions will address long held conservative beliefs: Christanity is the official religion;English is the official language; strict restrictions on becoming a citizen; no EPA, CDC, Education Department, or any other department or agency which will restrict in any way making profits. Essentially we would be a nation governed by the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition:

but there will be a knock down drag out fight over which one is the ruling faction.

Most RW evangelicals don't see Catholics or Mormons as Christian and they give a lot side eye to other denominations.

I thought conservatives revered and championed the Constitution? Why would they want to change it?

Oh, you mean that was all talk?

And why is anybody listening to Rick Santorum? Last I checked, he got bounced hard in his Senate re-election bid, failed a run for President twice and yet even though nobody voted for him, he somehow is getting or close to getting his vision for this country.

Santorum

1: A foul-smelling, frothy mixture of fecal matter and semen that dribbles from a male partner's raw, tumescent anus after sodomy and dribbles down his testicles like so much chocolate syrup and mayonnaise.

2: Biting, pejorative term used to describe a plutocratic, homophobic theocrat; a component of the radical right who embraces tax cuts for the rich, social spending cuts for the poor, anti-gay legislation in every conceivable form and adherence to the strictest tenets of the Christian right.

3. Last name of U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania who former Nebraska Senator Bob Kerry likened to the innermost part of the posterior and who President shit-for-brains referred to as "inclusive."

This is from he Urban Dictionary. There are many other online dictionaries with similar definitions.

Dan Savage's Campaign for the neologism "santorum"

The campaign for the neologism "santorum" started with a contest held in May 2003 by Dan Savage, a sex columnist and LGBT rights activist. Savage asked his readers to create a definition for the word "santorum" in response to then-US senator Rick Santorum's views on homosexuality and comments about same sex marriage. In his comments, Santorum had stated that "In every society, the definition of marriage has not ever to my knowledge included homosexuality. That's not to pick on homosexuality. It's not, you know, man on child, man on dog, or whatever the case may be." Savage announced the winning entry, which defined "santorum" as "the frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex." He created a web site, spreadingsantorum.com (and santorum.com), to promote the definition, which became a top internet search result, displacing the senator's official website on many search engines, including Google, Yahoo! and Bing.

An off-the-rails convention can propose anything, but it takes 3/4 of the states to ratify any amendment.

Article V

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose amendments to this Constitution, or, on the application of the legislatures of two thirds of the several states, shall call a convention for proposing amendments, which, in either case, shall be valid to all intents and purposes, as part of this Constitution, when ratified by the legislatures of three fourths of the several states, or by conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other mode of ratification may be proposed by the Congress; provided that no amendment which may be made prior to the year one thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any manner affect the first and fourth clauses in the ninth section of the first article; and that no state, without its consent, shall be deprived of its equal suffrage in the Senate.

This is a movement to break the back of the United States Government, making it weaker and more decentralized than even the European Union’s government. We even have to refight the fight of the 1780s to simply establish a singular nation in a constitution. We are facing the backlash to the actually conservative United States Constitution as “too Liberal” and “socialist!”

I also think this might be a passive aggressive attempt to defund the United States military, so billionaires can pay even less in taxes. If they succeed, they might receive ‘thank you!’ cards from Beijing and the Kremlin.

They already accused us of defunding the police. We have to frame this as an attempt to defund the military.
