China repeats military would take action if Pelosi visits Taiwan. (Per Bloomberg) TV

"The People's liberation army "won't sit idly by" if Pelosi visited Taiwan Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said Monday, echoing similar comments made by the Defense Ministry last week."

What kind of "military action" would they take, and what would the U.S. do?

It is ok for China to align itself with Russia and Iran, so who do they think they are to tell the U.S. who they can visit or not visit?

China would be ruined economically if they went to war with the largest purchaser of their manufactures goods. I also suspect that much of the rest of the world would not trade with them either.

3. Probably, I just don't see any benefit in a Pelosi visit being worth the risk

Is her shaking hands with some Taiwanese politician worth even a 5% chance of war? I don't think so.

6. Sure. but at this stage, not going would probably not be a good thing. Damn if you do, and

damn if you don't.

Pelosi has made this visit for 30 years, and now China is disturbed by it.

Depending what happens, it can also impact the midterms.

Lot of uncertainty

I don't know if they can finfinese a face saving way mechanism

4. I hope so, and would tend to think you are right since Biden and Xi had a long conversation

a few days ago.

Still it probably would have been better if this was done after the midterms, but McConnel and the repugs said we would look weak if Pelosi didn't go. This is the party that is afraid to stand up to their dictator trump

I think the biggest risk, besides of course a possible war in Asia, is economic, and this can make things much worse depending what happens

Since we are stupid enough to endorse this farcical policy we are obliged to follow it so yes China can tell Pelosi not to visit their breakaway province. If the U.S. had the courage to fully support the democratic nation of Taiwan this wouldn't be a problem.
