I haven't seen any polling since Roe was overturned.

Florida is the most pro-choice Republican state in the country.

If it motives Kansas voters, it will do the same in Florida.

He'll still be Pro-Life, but will convey a more moderate position on the issue.

That's my guess.

I still think he's got his eye on '24, and knows that his hopes depend upon a '22 victory, so he's going to make sure there's no chance of losing in November.

Hope I'm wrong, but I have little faith in TX or FL voters doing the right thing.

to losing to Gillum I don’t think Florida is as hard right as people think. I’m in the panhandle and the Trump flags have all but disappeared. Overturning Roe is massively unpopular and the possibility of losing rights to birth control isn’t playing any better. I think it hinges on how well the Dems can GOTV, especially with the group that rarely votes. .

You're correct that Florida is not Bright Red, but it has moved Right. Floridians also know that he's likely the next Republican Presidential nominee (if Trump gets indicted).

If you mean me saying that he'd beat Gillum by 20 points, it's because of Gillum's legal problems. If you mean me saying that Florida has moved to the Right, it's based on Trump 2016 vs Trump 2020. Despite Trump losing support in almost every state in 2020 vs. 2016, he actually won Florida by a wider margin in 2020.

That doesn’t change the fact DeSatan barely squeaked out a win against him. There was a 2% increase for Trump. Not a referendum by a long shot. Add to that DeSatan isn’t Trump. He doesn’t have the same cult following.

The only other state that I can think of that moved to the Right from 2016 to 2020 was Ohio.

Anyway, it's pointless to argue something that's not happening until November. I have DeSantis winning by 5%. Bookmark to see if I'm wrong. I'll do the same.

Because his values are anathema to our own, we don't perceive how well what he does plays with people.

He's a very good politician. He knows precisely what he is doing with the fights he is picking. For all the national media attention and Twitter condemnation, he pays attention to the wedges he can get to work in his favor.

He is not trying to convince us or get our vote. He knows we'd never vote for him. We're not his audience. So our ire towards him is immaterial and unimportant to him.

He's playing a game and knows exactly who he is talking to with everything he does. One thing I've been impressed with (in a technical way) is how his office just fucks with oppositional liberal media. They're responsive, snarky, and proactive. They drip with mockery and disdain and have a very keen sense of flicking at hypocrisy. The other day in Right spaces, his office's response to the View was widely spread. They were doing their usual anti-DeSantis thing, and his office's response was basically, "Get fucked."

This works with his base. They like this. He's their happy culture warrior.

He's one of those political cases where I warn people, "Don't fall to your own myopia. Just because you hate him doesn't mean he isn't effective." This is not a stupid man.

That's why I worry about him.

Bet we don't hear one word about abortion until after the election, if ever. Death Sentence is not a conservative, he's a fascist first and foremost and only truly cares about power and money for himself and the rich. He will lie and compromise on everything, at least he will say he's doing that, and then just never follow through with any of the good stuff but will push the bad full throttle.
