Their base is dwindling and young people recognize that the GOP is completely evil and on the wrong side of every issue, from climate change to student debt to abortion.

Republicans are gaining ground in voter registration. Worse, they are gaining ground in key swing states (PA, FL).

Our growth has been in already solidly blue states, or in blue areas of red states. Our geographic disadvantage is getting worse.

Also problematic is the rise of independent voters, who are painfully fickle.

in 2022 - 31 states that track party registration. We currently top 10 of them, The pubs 12, and independents lead 9.

In 2000 - 27 states tracked party registration. We topped 13 of them, Pubs 7, and independents 7.

The narrative that their base is withering, that our dominance is a matter of demographic inevitability - is utterly dead. We need to realize this and adjust accordingly. There is no progressive majority on the horizon, coming to sweep the rightwingers out of power. We are looking at being on the defensive quite a bit for the foreseeable future, with our gains coming in small incremental bites.

the dwindling and conservative Silent Generation, the Baby Boomers (who have already lost 30 percent of their original numbers to death) and old Gen Xers (my age cohort -- we entered high school when that asshole Reagan got elected). As young Gen Xers, Millennials et al age, they are NOT becoming more conservative. Even in most red states, young people are far more progressive than their elders. And every year about four million people born in this century turn 18, while 3 million or so born late 20s-early 60s die. So I do believe in the long run the Republicans and their philosophy are screwed, especially with climate change and abortion and guns as huge issues.

Here's an interesting visual depiction of this:

Especially the side of town I’m in. The signs in my area were probably about 95% ‘no’.

This is also about the only county which kept the Covid mask mandate after the repukes destroyed the governor’s attempt to have a statewide mandate.
