(10,193 posts)DeSantis: The raid on [Mar-a-Lago] is another escalation in the weaponization of federal agencies against the regimes political opponents, while people like Hunter Biden get treated with kid gloves."
Marco Rubio: After todays raid on Mar A Lago what do you think the left plans to use those 87,000 new IRS agents for? Using government power to persecute political opponents is something we have seen many times from 3rd world Marxist dictatorships. But never before in America.
Rick Scott: the FBIs move is incredibly concerning, especially given the Biden admins history of going after parents & other political opponents. This is 3rd world country stuff. We need answers NOW. The FBI must explain what they were doing today & why.

(28,477 posts)What parents? The only parents I see that anyone has been going after have Rs by their names. Ye shall know them by their policies: forced separation of families at the border and criminalizing parents who support their LGBTQ+ kids. And of course, all prospective women who may find themselves pregnant.

i wouldn't be surprised if levin's on a few of those stations, endorsed by those universities while he does his racist fascist keebler elf act
floridians can dump all of them merely by getting one of those schools to reread its mission statement and start looking for apolitical alternatives that don't crap all over their students and communities. all the others would have to follow the leader. it's truly idiotic for those schools to keep endorsing radio stations that help elect and make excuses for politicians that deny global warming, want to defund public education, push to end reproductive rights, and comfort assault weapons after mass shootings like at parkland.....

(47,131 posts)He did not turn the J6 into the usual GOP three ring circus.
As long as his senators are not harmed, McConnell is all in going after Trump.
He is letting the Dems do the dirty deed. He watches smiling from the sidelines.

(16,928 posts)He 'keeps his hands clean' (but full of money - ) and the Dems do the dirty work for him, leaving him with control of his party and power. Definitely a win-win.......

(7,522 posts)We have heard for years the "behind closed doors" line about how much regular repubs hate dump but are too afraid to say so because they will lose their gravy train of being in Congress. Yes, it's cowardly and so is McConnell et al letting Democrats do the job of taking down dump for them. Then they'll go back to serving their "acceptable" masters in the boardrooms.

(47,131 posts)Trump is also a ruthless sociopath, but believes his own press, is narcissistic and grandiose.
He has to showboat and sell himself all the time. Craves adoration and public recognition.
He has a street cunning but is not deep state smart. Cannot keep his head down or eye on the ball.
Trump is more like a foolishly vindictive, ham fisted local mob boss.
McConnell on the other hand is Machiavelli re-incarnated.

(47,131 posts)McConnell agreed to let the Dems go after Trump.
Made McCarthy pull his flying monkeys from the committee.
Turned the reins over to Cheney.
And no public negative GOP comments.
McConnell gets Trump gone and can blame the Dems.
And no one touches his treasonous senators.
McConnell sits back and sips a martini shaken not stirred.

(5,843 posts)... just how far they'll support him with the rest of the criminal cabal. If the orange motherfucker is found to have committed espionage with those stolen classified documents, there's absolutely no defense.
The only way they'd continue to support him is if there exists proof that they knew about it and/or were also involved in it.
But this is all pure speculation, which I try not to do. But it's just too damned tempting today!

(58,785 posts)virtually certainly anticipated this general kind of move at some point and are watching these latest events very carefully as they decide how to react to and use them -- along with a great deal more that is coming.

(7,432 posts)that Trump KEPT DOCUMENTS that he was supposed to surrender to the Archives. TWICE. Ergo, the DOJ gets a search warrant because they know that Trump will lie again if given the chance. And he'll destroy evidence if given the chance.

(2,356 posts)And most of them get paid up front, via retainer. tRump doesn't like to operate that way.
On the other hand, the RNC is paying his legal bills*, so...
And while I'm on that subject, my understanding is that he's in technical violation of federal election law: Agent Orange is raising money, with clear intent to run, and by law, if one raises/spends > $5000, then one must register within 10 days. He has not done so*. However, since the FEC has no chairperson (by design of Moscow Mitch since he took over as majority leader under Obama), it is still deadlocked, and thus, cannot take action.
*And he hasn't declared BECAUSE he's able to freeload off of the RNC for his legal bills. But the second he declares his candidacy, they'll cut him off, ostensibly to "appear neutral", and the Mango Menace will have to pay his lawyers out of his own pocket...or fleece his rubes for even more money.

(2,356 posts)Last night on Rachel Maddow, he wouldn't comment on the raid, or even Qevin McQarthy's (Q-Spineless) outrageous Twitter blast at AG Garland.
I get his refusal to comment on the investigation and raid. But figured there was some extra restraint on his part to not go after McQarthy for his stupidity. After all, had the situation been reversed, you've got to be sure that Mumbles Mitch McConnell (R-Yertle The Turtle) would have blasted Pelosi for doing what McQarthy did.
Novara
(5,843 posts)... let the events speak for themselves. Justice has the upper hand; no need to comment.
On the other side, they're absolutely panicked and defensive as hell.
This is why justice is going to win, IMO. The tide is turning towards accountability and everybody can see it.
Our side just needs to sit back, fold our arms over our chests, and smile while this drama plays out. Their side is running around with their heads popping off, panicked, because they know everyone can see what this is all about.
My remark was definitely not a criticism of him. Even staying above it when he had a legitimate opportunity to say something about McQarthy's stupidity was the best course of action in the long run.
