NEW: FBI removed about a dozen boxes from a basement at Mar-a-Lago on Monday, according to Trump's lawyer. After Trump gave over 15 boxes earlier this year, federal officials believed he still had more -- and his team wasn't telling the whole truth.

Mar-a-Lago search appears focused on whether Trump, aides withheld items

A lawyer for Donald Trump said agents seized about a dozen boxes on Monday, months after 15 boxes of items were returned

In the months before the FBI’s dramatic move to execute a search warrant at former president Donald Trump’s Florida home — and open his safe to look for items — federal authorities grew increasingly concerned that Trump or his lawyers and aides had not, in fact, returned all the documents and other material that were government property, according to people familiar with the discussions.

Officials became suspicious that when Trump gave back items to the National Archives about seven months ago, either the former president or people close to him held on to key records — despite a Justice Department investigation into the handling of 15 boxes of material sent to the former president’s private club and residence in the waning days of his administration.

Over months of discussions on the subject, some officials also came to suspect Trump’s representatives were not truthful at times, according to people familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation.

On Tuesday, a lawyer for Trump said the agents who brought the court-approved warrant to Mar-a-Lago a day earlier took about 12 more boxes after conducting their search.

from intelligence around the globe.

That would justify their actions to pursue this with a warrant.

Maybe they're following the money Jared got from the Saudis ...

You don't execute a search warrant against a former President unless something of substance is going down.
The security of the country comes before Trump.

God only knows who Trump had parading through there to take a gander at the docs. I'm sure he sold info to not just the highest bidder, but everyone who cared to pay. You KNOW he's a money-grubbing grifter.

... that this is about the 12 boxes that he didn't return because espionage by a former president is such a hot topic.

No one has said that these 12 boxes were the original boxes of documents he took. What if it's possible these were 12 boxes of NEW evidence that the FBI collected Monday?

Until I hear otherwise, I'm going to suspect this might be new evidence. They don't issue a search warrant for an ex-president for boxes they could have taken when they were there in June. Garland would have asked the FBI if there was any other way to retrieve the documents. A search warrant for an ex-president isn't something they do if they have other ways of obtaining what they need. They had a compelling reason to issue that search warrant, and especially in his safe. They had to have had reason to believe there was a crime being committed now, not the crime of taking documents 18 months ago.

Oh, this is interesting. On CNN they just said that unnamed sources within his cabal thought the investigation of him had stalled until this warrant was issued.

She also says part of the search warrant was redacted. So show it. Give an exclusive interview to Fishstick or Hannity and let them have an exclusive about the supposedly petty reason the FBI executed the search warrant.
