Wait, the law says Trump might be barred from ***holding*** office, not barred from running.

Washington Post: What could the Mar-a-Lago search mean for Trump legally?

If he’s charged and found guilty, could Trump be barred from office?

Some legal experts think that if Trump is found guilty of hiding classified material, he could be barred from running for president again. The relevant law regarding public documents says that a violator “shall forfeit his office and be disqualified from holding any office under the United States.”

“There could be constitutional challenges,” said Jeffrey Jacobovitz, a prominent trial attorney in Washington, “but the statute seems to be clear on its face.”

So if constitutional challenges fail then Trump might be able to run for office but wouldn't be allowed to hold that office. So what would that mean?

It means he can collect untold millions in his presidential campaign fund, spend it all on himself with virtually no oversight or accountability and never risk bearing the burden of the presidency.

I suspect this was Trump's plan in '16, but it backfired on him.

I don’t think he wants to be president again. I think he wants to pretend so he can collect.

He thinks the office is an automatic shield from legal action.

But he never WANTED to be president. He only wanted the glory. He never did the job. He never learned anything about how government works. He only wanted the office, not the job. And he made an utter mockery of America.

Veterans won’t support him. Not the bowing and scraping he got first time around.

I think the police won’t even support him.

And people will be lining up in droves to buy it. Trump + the presidency is a perfect example of this.

If a court rules he is barred from holding office, I would expect most states would not allow his name to be on the ballot, and the GOP would not allow him to be their nominee.

I mean, I guess he could fundraise and hold rallies, but even that would likely violate election laws if he wasn’t a registered candidate.

If he is ineligible to serve, then there's no reason he should be allowed on any ballot. And if he isn't running for office, he can't do campaign fundraising. About the only thing he can do is set up a GoFundMe page. And the idiots would still give him money.

The party would waste over $100 million for a POTUS run that would have to default to the Democratic Party candidate.

Basically the’d spend $100 million to elect a Democrat.
