READER: So, Jan Brewer says she'll support Kari Lake if Lake admits she's been lying in order to win? And if she does Brewer will back a liar? Have you ever heard anything so ridiculous? ME: I've lived in Arizona a long time. So, yes. https://azcentral.com/story/opinion/op-ed/ej-montini/2022/08/10/arizona-gop-unity-campaign-political-revenge-porn-desantis-kari-lake/10281399002/… via @azcentral

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will be in Phoenix for what the GOP is calling a 'Unite and Win' rally. Unite? Someone needs to check his Funk & Wagnalls.

Grammar is a minefield and my life is a series of small explosions, but even a linguistically challenged newspaper writer like your pal E.J. can see that the person coming up with Republican campaign slogans these days is not very good at using words.

For example, next week Florida’s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis will be in Phoenix for what the GOP is calling a “Unite and Win” rally.

Unite?

Someone needs to check his Funk & Wagnalls.

Pretty much all of the standard English dictionaries define “unite” in the same way, saying it means “come or bring together for a common purpose or action.”

That doesn’t quite jibe with press releases associated with the GOP’s Phoenix rally, including an announcement by Arizona Republican Party Chair Kelli Ward, which says the event is meant to be “in support of Trump-endorsed candidates.”

Trump endorsed.

Not all Republicans.

Just, Trump endorsed.
