The tapes and transcripts of all his conversations with Putin. (Including the one where he said the United States would veto any NATO attempt to stop Putin from taking Ukraine.).There's been a lot of speculation about whether he declassified this stuff before he left. He wouldn't have. Because if it was declassified, anybody could see it with a FOIA request. If it's classified they can't. However, he wouldn't have trusted Biden not to declassify it. Leaving him with only one choice: leave it classified, and then take it with him and hide it.
No doubt he figured things would go like this:
1. It would take awhile for anyone to notice they were missing.
2. It would take awhile for the DOJ to figure out they were at his place in Mar-a-Lardo
3. When they asked for the records, he'd give them the 15 boxes that didn't contain the tapes/transcripts.
4. It would take awhile for the DOJ to notice the 15 boxes didn't contain the stuff they were looking for.
5. He'd tie them up in pointless, bad faith negotiations, trying to get the remaining material.
6. He'd tie them up in court for YEARS with subpoenas trying to get the remaining material.
7. If he lost in court, he'd simply destroy the stuff. (Something that carries JAIL time now, thanks to his 2018 law, which was originally intended to punish leakers. Oh the irony.
8. By now it's 2025, when there is (hopefully, from their perspective) a Republican President and Congress that will pardon him for the lesser crime of destroying govt records.
He never reckoned on a 'rat' telling DOJ exactly what to look for, and where to find it.
He never reckoned on Garland making a bold move to get it.
He's screwed, and so is everybody who's currently trying to protect him. I'm taking down names.

(5,944 posts)It's a political discussion board. There is really no question a poster could possibly raise that could not be met with a snarky suggestion to go and Google it. Of course, that leaves precious little room for discussion....

(5,955 posts)The last step, after tying the DOJ up in court on subpoenas, would be to simply destroy the stuff. Then hope that a Republican President will pardon him for destroying government records. Something which carries jail time, thanks to HIS 2018 law. How's that for irony?

(15,003 posts)various assassinations that were carried out on his watch (Soleimani or bin Laden's son, for example) which make him feel big and strong and tough? Something like that, which would be very highly classified, and sensitive enough that the DOJ/FBI would be willing to weather this shitstorm in order to get them back.

Why would the FBI subpoena CCTV videos?
What could they possibly show related to classified documents?
.... The people who came to visit Trump.
Maybe the rat is a Secret Service agent who couldn't stomach his country being sold out.
That's all speculation. Who knows for sure aside from Trump et al?
But when I look over what has happened with this and how it went down, I have a strong feeling they've got him on something much more than a misdemeanor.
I thought CNN switching to a main article about Gov Degenocidis seemed to be signaling it is time to throw the lying mango under the bus.

The warrant search could be the end of the issue. The wanted it, they got it, deal done.
