So when the FBI wrote an affidavit for violations of the Espionage Act, they said, "here's how I know Trump has classified documents and won't give them back: We subpoenaed them, his attorneys showed us them, and then refused to give them back."
Judge: Why do you think this man committed a crime?
FBI: Because his attorneys showed us the proof and then colluded in that crime.

(58,785 posts)and I think about 25 did prison time. More escaped that but not ruin of their careers. Watergate was of course very small potatoes compared to this, which also extends to criminal/seditious activities in various states. I'm hopeful.

(5,125 posts)Maybe attorneys are just sick of being forced to break the law by their clients and this is a subtle way of fighting back.
Just a thought.
So many of the rich and powerful think their attorneys can get them out of any criminal consequences so they do what they please and pay the attorneys to "fix it".

(10,078 posts)We also know that Trump is too lazy to do anything for himself, so which WH aides packed those boxes for him? Aides had to know that those boxes contained documents that belonged to the National Archives, and possible that some of them were classified as top secret. So which aides were still working in the WH when the packing started?

(14,838 posts)I doubt there will be any.
The govt wanted the docs back in their custody. But I doubt they will ever bring charges.
This is not a case they want to charge. Not on its own.

(6,602 posts)If TFG's attorneys showed the FBI documents that he had illegally, & then "colluded in the crime" by keeping them, doesn't that eliminate attorney/client privilege, which means the attorneys would be free to talk to investigators about their discussions with TFG?
My understanding is that if an attorney & their client both participate in the commission of a crime there is no attorney/client privilege for any discussions related to that crime.
Legal folks?
