All he has to do is start spilling national secrets to Breitbart. What do you think would happen if he starts saying that 911 was an inside job? How many would believe him? There is all kinds of things he could concoct that would create even more havoc..... This is not going to be as easy as charging him with a crime and getting a jail sentence.

The RW media backs this approach 100%. "Poor, poor Donny is unfairly being prosecuted by the evil liberals". It works like a charm.

was that he would somehow find a way to diminish the office.

I don't want it to be that every time a different party is on charge they go after former Presidents like in banana republics. So this needs to be tied up in a pretty neat package and it has to be clear that it's unprecedented.

As someone said on TV about Nixon the other night, at least he resigned and went away. Trump has no intention of doing so unless they somehow put him away.

IF TFG... or DeSantis, Noem or Cruz become President in 2024...

Expect FBI raids at Obama's House... Biden's House... for no damn reason whatsoever.

It's going to take DECADES for this sickness to disappear.

Precedent: By authorizing a warrant against Trump, the DOJ has set a precedent that a corrupt FBI could be used as a political weapon. This is why process has to be SPOTLESS on this one. I would not be at all surprised to see a future Republican president use this against the Democrats in the future even so, but the DOJ is being very careful that every i has a dot and every t is crossed.

Kompromat: The secrets of some very powerful people will be exposed alongside those state secrets, and when the Feds come knocking at their doors, the DOJ does not want any question that they did not follow process exactly.

Politics: Democrats are often accused of not being tough enough by Republicans, but clearly after this week that's easy enough to refute. The advantage that Democrats have, however, is that they now effectively represent the Rule of Law, which means that have to be far more sensitive to the nuances of the law as regards to everyone, not just their political opponents. Ordinarily, you can argue that having the moral high ground puts you at a disadvantage, but in this particular instance, having the moral high ground makes these actions far more devastating than they would be otherwise.
