Josh Marshall on the legal advice Trump is getting:

Text

Josh Marshall
@joshtpm
People aren’t figuring in the full implications of the last 48 hrs. The ex president is making a false claim of authority (in pectore declassification) and packaging it in a demonstrable lie (the standing order). He appears not to be getting any legal advice at all.

Josh Marshall
@joshtpm

2/ Not bad legal advice. Any legal advice. His current lawyers are an unknown lawyer from New Jersey and a former OAN host. But it seems unlikely even they’re advising him on this. It all suggests a complete implosion and panic in Trumpworld.

Probably has a few $100M squirreled away in an offshore bank somewhere. But if he flees an indictment, the Feds will probably freeze all his bank accounts here. He won't be able to get any loans. He will be a pariah, and he's well on his way to being one now.

by the modern karl roves and repeated by a few hundred trained liars on 1500 radio stations, fox, and a few web sites

what has changed though is he killed the horse he rode in on by pushing limbaugh to delay and miss treatments and now central messaging rots in missouri somewhere. without limbaugh the excuses and rationalizations and deflections are not centralized

without Limbaugh i wouldn't be surprised if some of the lesser blowhards might be straying toward dropping off, maybe rating the local hamburger joints instead of defending him, or just sticking to attacking biden and dems

STFU

I say rarely because he did invoke the fifth 440 times on Thursday.
He appears to have found a good lawyer for his GA election case.

But with this wacky crew:
Lin Wood (state bar successfully ordered a mental health examination and facing potential disbarment)
Sidney Powell (currently fighting TX sanctions from frivolous election cases including potential disbarment)
Rudy Giuliani (NY & DC suspended his law license)
Christina Bobb (deep into big lie, OAN legal analyst, alleged potential plating of evidence by FBI)
Alina Habba (apparently Trump lawyers think she's incompetent, she attacks the judges she faces and has a very checkered track record, suggested the FBI may have planted evidence)

TFG is beat before he gets started.

Some of that is due to who Trump is, what he does and how difficult it is to get paid.

he was incapable of pronouncing those documents magically declassified. There was a procedure to be followed that he didn't bother with.

Maher and I are on the same page with this one. I said a couple of days ago and he said on his sow last night that when they were hastily packing up the White House because the Bidens were moving in there in a few hours, that he just directed packers to grab boxes of files willy nilly, not knowing or caring what was in them, he was the president for a few more hours and by gum, they were his. Remember, this is a dumb guy who runs on rage and spite.

What a careful forensic examination might turn up (at best) is a set of well defined fingerprints belonging to Jared Kushner, who is not quite as dumb and who might have realized their sale value.

Failing that, we have to assume that little actual harm was done, that the files were just the remaining trappings of office he was clinging to out of sheer spite because he will always think he was robboed of something that was riightfully his.

I do hope this will result in a prison term. Oh, yes, indeed.
