End of the NYT story, buried at bottom three paragraphs:
On Thursday, Attorney General Merrick B. Garland made a public statement saying he had personally authorized a search warrant being executed on Mr. Trumps property, and he indicated that the Justice Department would only have made such a move after trying less invasive measures.
Shortly before Mr. Garland made the announcement, a person close to Mr. Trump reached out to a Justice Department official to pass along a message from the former president to the attorney general. Mr. Trump wanted Mr. Garland to know he had been checking in with people around the country and found them to be enraged by the search
The country is on fire, Mr. Trump said, according to a person familiar with the exchange. What can I do to reduce the heat?[/b]

(70,239 posts)i dont think it was so much hutchinson's testimony as the fact that she had been threatened that caused the damn to start cracking.

(22,171 posts)that are remaining at his side, and I expect before too long, there won't be anyone else left.
An ugly thought, that before too long, he'll (tRUMP) will call out for his 'loyal troops' and WHAM, we'll have chaos in the streets. He's already did this on J6 2021. But this time around, I strongly suspect that Garland and others are keeping a close eye on things down there, and for some reason, Garland moved in as he did into MAL and retrieved the sensitive government documents ... why then all of a sudden? They've been negotiating / talking back and forth...perhaps the authorities knew that tRUMP had a visitor coming to look at, perhaps buy something?
Why else would he have such documents w/ him? The classification (although important) doesn't matter, my question is why in the world would a 76-year old man be doing w/ details on nuclear weapons (a guess IMHO), perhaps some information on our intelligence setups overseas (a guess IMHO), the list goes on. Just why does he still have this crap, he's out of office, he's retired, he's not a nuclear engineer, etc.
Sell, SEll, SELl, SOLD to the highest bidder in the back corner!!

(8,839 posts)why I recommend the FBI scour past and current social media for armed individuals that threaten directly or implicitly political violence.
The FBI should get warrants and go to these individuals complete with SWAT and do the asshats great fear, TAKE their guns and other arms. Even using federal troops would be fine by me.
That would get attention and make us all safer. If not, there will a continuous drum beat of violent acts (like the nail gun guy who attacked the FBI and died in a cornfield) and the potential for much worse.

Trump fundraising pitch this afternoon: "THEY BROKE INTO MY HOME - the home of the 45th President of the United States. I could really use your help right now. Can I count on YOU to rush in a donation by the end of the day? Your support cannot wait."

He just is incapable of making good decisions, which is good for the rest of us. Can you imagine if he was intelligent and had impulse control?

(1,324 posts)Bear with me here, but is the threat to unleash the hounds (rabid TFG supporters) unless Garland backs off? If so, that seems like an incredibly stupid thing to say.
EndlessWire
(6,570 posts)But, I think he was exploring the idea of a bribe. Since Garland did all that stuff from announcements to the raid, I guess the answer was NO. Plus, if the remark was about diffusing the situation, well, we have the example where he sat on his lard butt in the dining room while people were being injured and threatened.
I also think it was a threat to summon his gang. You know, the people who answer Trump's call will probably die. He doesn't care about them.
