The CEO and co-founder of Whole Foods thinks socialists are taking over because of rising discussions of gun control in the US.
Evidence of this left-wing takeover was present everywhere from schools to the military to firearms legislation, John Mackey told Reason Magazines podcast on Thursday.
"My concern is that I feel like socialists are taking over," the multi-millionaire organic grocery magnate said. "Theyre marching through the institutions. Theyre taking over education. It looks like theyve taken over a lot of the corporations. It looks like theyve taken over the military. And its just continuing.
"You know, Im a capitalist at heart, and I believe in liberty and capitalism. Those are my twin values. And I feel like, you know, with the way freedom of speech is today, the movement on gun control, a lot of the liberties that Ive taken for granted most of my life, I think, are under threat," he added.
The Whole Foods founder hasnt been shy about his staunch free-market-first views, writing a 2013 book promoting conscious capitalism and calling the economic system greatest thing humanity has ever done.

(4,575 posts)It must be infuriating that his employees are paid $15 an hour and have benefits since Amazon took over. I also don't miss seeing his employees asking for donations to charity at the checkout because they are forced to.

(83,770 posts)I wouldn't shop in your overpriced stores if you paid me. I suggest you shut your mouth and keep politics out of your groceries.
Your TV ads show a wholesome place to shop, your comments prove you to be anything but.

(9,893 posts)I think when I retire in a few years I'm going to go get my teaching cerification so I can, for a few years at least, teach kids what "socialism" means. I think right now they are teaching that it means, "Anything I don't like."
