The program was created after WW II and expanded to include 5 countries that share intelligence information with one another.
Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States together form "The Five Eyes" which the UK Defense Journal describes as the "intelligence alliance of the Anglosphere."
Some of the documents retrieved were revealed to be SIGINT intelligence which is what 5 eyes falls under.
Donald Trump is a threat to our national security and needs to be indicted sooner rather than later.
The International press is shocked at this scandal unlike some of the press in the US.

(4,552 posts)This is a great point. We are part of a global security sphere. It is our responsibility to take down our threat to that.
And because we KNOW there was a document involving a member of the EU (Macron), then they will be equally eager for us to take down TFG.
We answer to countries around the world. We owe it to all the other counties to clean up this mess. To heck with what the crazy GQP and Maga-lagos have to say about it!

It is a mess of our making, with help of course, and our laws are what will correct the problem if we collectively chose to do so.

(17,913 posts)This could be as bad or worse then Hansson and Ames. Their treason caused the deaths of numerous intel assets around the globe and they did it for chump change. Donnie may not have been as cheap as those bastards.
The Saudis didn't invest 2 billion in Jarad's brand new, private equity fund just because they're buds. Over the objections of Saudi's soverign wealth officials no less, since Kushner has zero experience running such a fund. We said then that there was a lot more to that story. This may be the "lot more" part.

(47,058 posts)Hanssen is thought to be the worst intelligence disaster in US history.
He sold thousands of classified documents to the Russians, extremely serious and sensitive documents. Also put US agents in danger.
The $2 billion from the Saudis is only partial payment and only one country.
We can do the math.

(7,290 posts)as a Five Eyes Agency.
All federal agencies that deal with classified information determine whether classified info is releasable to our Five Eyes partners, and if it is, that will included in the classification markings in the document. We dont share everything with our Five Eyes partners, and in fact, sharing a classified document with Five Eyes that isnt specifically marked as being releasable to Five Eyes is a violation.

I'm still rather shocked by this fact.
My perspective has completely flipped from the "before times".
PatSeg
(47,430 posts)and we are living in opposite world. There is very little that is recognizable about today's republicans. They still love their guns and hate socialism, but they've shrugged off so many long held beliefs and loyalties without second thought, because some carnival barker with weird hair told them to.
Basically, they never really believed much of anything except what they were told to believe. Astonishing, but I guess we probably always knew it was true.
msfiddlestix
(7,282 posts)it's a great song, just never imagined applying to reality on a national level.
Carnival Barker with Weird Hair. So appropriate.
PatSeg
(47,430 posts)on the Nickelodeon channel and one of the regular segments was "Opposite Day". Now that pops in my head on a regular basis, along with the movie Idiocracy.
I have a great imagination, but I could never have imagined what we've seen in recent years. It goes way beyond satire or farce. More in the realm of nightmares I suppose. All I know is if this was a novel or a movie, I'd want my money back.
msfiddlestix
(7,282 posts)clue or indication where the story line was going.
It's exactly what I actually do on Netflix, Prime etc. Usually the titles give it away, but vague, a few lines in description. When that is unclear, I might click play and the script in the first few scenes is the tell.
I've noticed movie scripts are lacking in imaginative narrative and plot lines. Or i'm just too jaded at this point.
There are exceptions, but they are rare.
PatSeg
(47,430 posts)Though even those characters are more believable and likable than these clowns.
If this madness was a movie, as soon as I saw Donald Trump, I'd assume it was too farfetched to be worth my time. I'd also think that they had the worst makeup artist in Hollywood. No one would look like that on purpose.
Then if I hung in there long enough to see Marjorie Taylor Greene, Ted Cruz, Lauren Boebert, or Jim Jordan - "No, no, no, not possible. No one would possibly vote for those fools even in a make-believe world!" Even a farce would try to be more credible than that.
The Logic and Reason the Republicans show is as topsy turvy as found in Alice in Wonderland.

With the threats to democracies across the globe I think we need 5 Eyes right now.
Why should our allies trust us right now? Trump put his traitors throughout government. The purge needs to begin at the top to send a message, screw the pyramid strategy, time is of the essence.

- it does seem like a theme to me.
stopdiggin
(11,308 posts)as a 'theme' is an equally vapid and dangerous conceit. Just as I'm sure you are nottrying to say that we shouldn't (ever) share intelligence regarding mutual threats with other states? Terror groups? Covid? That also doesn't 'compute' - (at least not in this reckoning).
Blanket statements have a tendency to lead into corners.
