It is being reported that when the documents at MAL were turned over to the FBI, Trump's lawyer turned them over and said that there were no more documents. It was a serious lie and criminal offense. It was a blatant obstruction of justice.
Especially considering that there were still 20 boxes of documents still there and some of them were marked at the highest level of security. She signed off on the documents. She accepted responsibility.
Every law-abiding citizen in this country would like Donald Trump to be held accountable for his crime, but before that can happen, every person that supports him, props him up, covers for him, and lies for him, must be held accountable.
That is why his lawyer should be taken into custody immediately. A charge of obstruction of justice in a matter such as this can bring up to 20 years in prison. It is a heavier penalty than that for espionage.
The DOJ should send a message. There is a penalty for covering up the crimes of Donald Trump. She should be arrested immediately. This crime has grown into an emergency situation. The DOJ should treat it like an emergency, in my opinion.

(21,339 posts)Seriously, I agree with you, a message, a big message needs to be sent before the election.
How the fuck does the GQP leader of the House of Representatives get away with threatening the AG of the United States? Merrick Garland gave Donald Trump every chance to simply return the stolen documents, Trump left Garland no choice but to go get them.
I have another theory about the Mar-el-Loco surveillance tape showing boxes of documents being moved in and out of the storage area. Maybe they moved documents out to copy them and then bring them back in?
The MSM has sure taken Trump's side in this by focusing on the search instead of the serious crimes.

(42,703 posts)Seems like it would matter exactly what she attested to. For example, my understanding is that it wasn't that there were no more documents, but that the remaining documents were not classified. Was it based on personal knowledge or on representations made to her by her client?
When those questions are answered, the extent to which she might be criminally liable can be more accurately assessed.

(111,095 posts)But you are on the right track. If she said there were no more classified documents, how did she know that? Was she told by her client? That is the valuable information that needs to be reported to the public. That is the way to hold Trump accountable. I doubt that she will choose to go to prison for Donald Trump. She will talk. But, at this time, she is responsible for signing off on those documents and saying there were no more classified documents on the premise.

You should probably change that, it's inappropriate to label members as vigilantes.
Other than that, I agree with everything else.

(73,537 posts)The DOJ will need to determine if she was aware of the fact that there were still documents there. However, based upon her statement on Fox News, she had not even asked Trump. Odd that she would declare that he had returned all of them.

(111,095 posts)But this is the information that needs to come out at this time. The lawyer needs to come clean. Or choose to cover for Trump? Time is of the essence in this investigation. She doesn't need any more time to go on FOX and not be held accountable. This is the way to approach it , in my opinion.

(51,104 posts)I was reminded of that yesterday.
How the hell could she sign a statement saying everything had been returned without knowing? Without even asking Trump?

(111,095 posts)Why would she continue to go on Laura Ingraham's show and cover for him? But it is not just her, it is all the people that are covering up for his lies and crimes. Hold them accountable and that will shine the light on the cockroach.

(10,052 posts)What if the lawyer that signed the document for DOJ was told by Trump and his evil toads that it was the final classified documents and then later learned he/she was lied to when finding out there was more and now had put themselves into legal jeopardy. Would that lawyer maybe contact DOJ and have a chat with them to help themselves?

(1,654 posts)Some are pretty sure some might have been destroyed. Some may be off site in another location (think Bedminster). For all we know, some might be sold to other nations. For one thing, we don't know when some went missing. Were some just not returned to the proper places after briefings. Were some specifically requested when he was taking them to the residence to "read" and not returned? We just don't know.

(6,591 posts)It's been reported his lawyers (I haven't seen specific names) showed the FBI classified docs when they met, but didn't turn them over. Some were turned over, but not all, some were shown & retained.
Why would they do that? It's like they were telling the FBI "our client has these docs, here they are, you can look at them, but we don't have our client's permission to turn them over to you."
Were TFG's attorneys trying to cover their own asses, make it look like they were cooperating with investigators & not participating in TFG's crimes, & throwing TFG under the bus in the process?

(111,095 posts)..but would they then go on the Laura Ingraham show to praise Donald Trump?
I think the DOJ needs to be on the offensive on this part of the investigation. Trump uses the media as a PR weapon every day. He must be countered.
