Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsLiz Cheney is preparing for defeat in her House race.
I just heard some reporter on MSNBC say this in his report.
Just a few months ago, she was the rising star in Wyoming politics. She was third in power for the Republicans in the House.
Then, she voted to impeach Trump for trying to overthrow the government. And it's been downhill for her since that time.
Wyoming never believed any of that stuff they say on Fake News. After all, they supported Mr Trump by a large margin and they are not the type of people to change their opinion on a whim.
So they never forgave Liz Cheney for going after their guy in the J6 Committee hearings. She was like the leader.
And now, she is preparing to lose and with no announced plans for the future. Will she run as an independent? Will she seek higher office? Perhaps the Presidency?
She is paying a high price in Wyoming for standing up for principle and the Constitution.
I always thought the people in Wyoming were smarter.

(10,271 posts)So, if Liz were to try for the GOP nomination, they would offer some support but they can't actually vote for her in a closed primary.
I know, I know, LP has their detractors in here, and that's fine.

(5,125 posts)BUT when you think of the Lincoln Party positions, they are for what Republicans USED to say they believed in.
Therefore, from the perspective of getting the party back to it's sane and rational formation, the Lincoln Party makes sense.
Will it happen?
Probably not.

(12,444 posts)Liz Cheney... or Andrew Yang... won't draw many votes from Trump.
Instead, they will draw votes from disaffected suburban GOP'ers who were so repulsed by Trump in 2020 that they voted Biden.
No one who supports Trump is going to look and say hmmmm, Cheney looks good, too.

(4,298 posts)Kinz too. Nothing to lose by voting for Biden agenda now, but neither he nor Liz will.
Kinzinger recently tweeted at VP Harris "If youve ever wondered why the Left cant win elections despite the craziness of Trumpism, save stuff like this for later reference. You may be angry with me, but I am not wrong."
What "stuff?" Oh, being kind to blind people by describing what she was wearing, like they asked her to, when she was speaking before a group of disabled people.
Yeah. Cheney and Kinzinger may be doing the right thing in J6 Committee, but they belong in the Republican party. You don't have to dig very deep to find the cruelty.

(52,227 posts)She understands that the overt fascism is a losing political position in the long run, and when it falls apart, she will look be in a good position to lead the party out of the mess.
Of course, the question is, how long will it take for the Republican Party to reach that point.
Personally, I think we're quite a number of years away. Even a conviction of Donnie for espionage won't change their fascist ways. They won't change until Fox News goes away, at a minimum.

(1,850 posts)To be involved in politics from other vantage points, and bide her time.
Perhaps she will spearhead a movement to break from the GOPQ.
Or her candidacy for president will polarize and implode what's left of the.party if it comes too soon. Maybe she'll get a job as a pundit on Fox news, exert influence and wreak havoc there!

(12,536 posts)Trump candidates LOSING, especially if they get beaten in races they should've won, will have an impact on the not-crazy part of the GOP. Look what happened to the "Tea Party" after they ran weirdos and lost races they should've won
Of course, the rabid ones wont change but they can be relegated to the cheap seats. They are not the majority.

That being said, her family is GOP royalty, at least within the old guard. They know how to play the long game and they play for keeps. She is her father's daughter and anyone who counts her down & out, does so at their own peril. She'll be back. Count on it.

I'm no Cheney fan but I have to respect her for this:
Rep. Liz Cheney confirmed she snapped at Rep. Jim Jordan during the January 6 insurrection.
* Cheney told Jordan, "Get away from me. You fucking did this," as House members were evacuating.
* Cheney became a vocal Trump critic and is on the select committee investigating January 6.

AverageOldGuy
(1,525 posts)Yes, she likely will lose on Tuesday, maybe even lose big. And it may not matter.
Let's review a few facts.
-- Her father is you-know-who.
-- Dick Cheney is 81 and has a bad heart.
-- There's something else Dick Cheney has: A HUGE Rolodex with the names, phone numbers, and bank account info on every single Republican who can write a check for over $1,000 (more or less). And he knows them all by their first names, knows their wives, girl friends, children, grandchildren.
-- He knows they hate Trump and his minions.
-- We know some other things about Dick Cheney, namely, he knows how to play the game and God help whoever gets in his way. Cheney is a street fighter, a gutter brawler.
-- And he hates Trump for what Trump has done to Cheney's Republican Party.
All of which means don't be surprised to find that the Cheney father-daughter duo has been working for months (years ?) to put her in the White House and Donald Trump is just a bump in the road who is about to become roadkill.
I'll bet a month's pay Cheney has a shitlist of Republican officials -- all Trump-humpers -- who will get a knife in the back beginning after the Nov 2022 election.
I'm betting that Dick Cheney and a group of very high rollers, very heavy hitters are poised to remake the GOP into his image -- which is NOT the image of Trump but instead is a revitalized old-timey GOP.
You KNOW when the news broke of the FBI searching Mar-A-Lago Cheney was rolling the floor, laughing his ass off, on the phone with Liz, shouting "We got the MF!!"

(5,443 posts)She has violated St Ronnie's dictum, his 11th commandment: "Thou shalt not speak ill of another Republican. She has placed country over party and there is no place for that in the GOP, ever. They are faux patriots, because they value their party over the USA. It doesn't matter that she is arch conservative, and daughter of the former VP. Her appeal to the Republican masses is a net negative, as can be seen in her district. She may try to create her own political organization to change things in the conservative world-- we will see, but the road for her forward is a long one.
