"SNIP......
Former President Trump called on the FBI to return the documents seized from his estate in Mar-a-Lago, claiming some of them to be privileged, attorney-client material, The Hill reports.
There is no indication that agents seized any non-governmental documents.
Daniel Dale: Responding to FBI search, Trump and allies return to his familiar strategy: flood the zone with nonsense.
.......SNIP"

This has to be one of the funniest things I have heard. I may have to eat those words if they do it and the way things always go for him that just might happen but maybe, just maybe he has burned everyone out so much that they will react like that clip.
That he even had the guts to ask for that lets everyone know that even now he knows nothing about what his job was and what their job is.

(14,967 posts)I know these docs aren't in fact executive privileged because that's not how executive privilege works, but the very fact that he claims they are is a confession that he was not legally allowed to possess them.
Even if executive privilege worked this way -- which I repeat I know it does not -- the only way those docs could be executive privileged in any circumstance would be if they were docs from his presidency. But docs from his presidency belong with the National Archives and he isn't allowed to have them.
He's loudly proclaiming that he was breaking a law, while not gaining the shield he thinks he is.

(6,591 posts)My understanding is that when an attorney participates in a crime with a client, that eliminates attorney-client privilege.
I'm not an expert, so I could be wrong.

(6,591 posts)From attorney Mike Dunford on Twitter:
Thing is, if it's covered by executive privilege, Trump doesn't own it. It is by definition a presidential record. So Trump's statement here is effectively a confession.

(10,125 posts)Executive privilege is not for the benefit of an individual.
It is for the benefit of the Republic.
In other words, it is a governmental privilege not a personal privilege.
So what advantage is it to the Republic that Trump gets to keep these government documents out of the possession of the government? Rhetorical question.
The DoJ & its Attorney General, FBI & its Director and National Security Division and its Chief of the Counterintelligence = the government
want these documents back.
And a Grand Jury and a judge agreed with them
The resulting search warrant delivered what they said would be there with the alleged assistance of an informant.
Joe Biden decides executive privilege claims as he did in the Jan 6th efforts to get documents.
Trump has little to no say.
More BS smoke
